There has been a history of target holders in Paramount, California. The first targets were placed on the roof of the local grocery store in 1868. Mr. Wheeler put up some targets with his rifle while he was working at the store. In 1892, Wm. Hantz put up a frame building at 330 E St., which served as the town hall and also served as a shooting ground for local farmers and hunters. It was from this location that many early Paramount shooters learned their trade. The first commercial target holders were established by Geo. Lyle and Bros., located at 1015 Sutter Street, in 1898-99 timeframe. From these establishments, others began to open up throughout the years until 1948 when commercial target holders were discontinued in favor of hand held guns that could be fired from any location within city limits without having to leave home!

The Paramount Shooting Club was founded in 1907 by several prominent citizens of the town of Paramount, California. The original target holders were members of the club who would go out and shoot at various targets located around town. Eventually, the club became a place where members could come together to shoot whatever they wanted and have some fun. This led to the creation of other shooting ranges around the area, such as at Stockton and Modesto.
Paramount is located in the Riverside-San Bernardino area of southern California and is one of the oldest continuously operated film studios in the United States. The company was founded by brothers Charles and Adolphus Mayer in 1915, and its first movie was a short subject called "The Kid." In 1916, they produced their first feature-length film, "The Godfather". The studio became one of the most important in Hollywood during the 1950s and 1960s with its productions of such classics as "A Streetcar Named Desire", " Psycho ", "Moby Dick" and "Eisenhower". It was sold to Viacom in 1986.

Paramount is a city in Southern California and the county seat of San Bernardino County. It was established in 1887 as a small town on the edge of present-day Riverside County, by three brothers who operated a general store. The name comes from the Paramount Ranch, which they acquired in 1885. The area now encompassing Paramount was part of what was known as Tejon Ranch until it was sold to millionaire Jerome Harnett in 1906. In 1916, Harnett built the first movie theater in Los Angeles, and the community grew rapidly thereafter. In 1925, Paramount became an incorporated city with a population of over 100,000 people. On July 14, 1987, Paramount experienced one of its most infamous moments when two gunmen stormed into its business district during lunchtime and began shooting at customers and staff members before eventually fleeing empty handed into nearby San Bernardino county. The attack left four people dead and nine injured including five police officers who were shot several times during the attempted robbery. At the time of the attack, local politics were still very fluid following years of tension between Mayor Tom Bradley (D), former City Councilman Don Lacey (R) and his predecessor Ramses Barden (D). In 1992, after more than 25 years as an unincorporated community within San Bernardino County, Paramount became one of 12 cities located within newly formed Riverside County when that county was created from portions of Orange and Riverside counties following statehood in November 1912. On December 1st 1990, then-Mayor Tom Bradley honored all twelve cities by proclamation creating "Paramount Community College District". The purpose of this district was to provide unique educational opportunities for residents throughout both Riverside County and adjacent Los Angeles Counties through programs such as adult education/technical learning centers; vocational training; college level partnerships; research institutes;and continuing education institutions."
