In the early 1900s, Paramount was a small town in Northern California. It had a few stores and a few residents. One of these residents was George A. Smith, who operated an ammunition store in the town. In 1905, Smith began selling shot shells and other rounds to customers in his store. The first shotshell company that Smith founded was called "Smith & Wesson." At first, these rounds were used for target practice only. However, over time, they became popular among shooters because they were relatively easy to load and carry around with you. In 1916, George A. Smith passed away and his son Harry took over the business. Harry continued to sell Shotshell Ammunition products until 1947 when he sold it to Standard Ammunition Corporation (SAC). SAC continued to produce Shotshell Ammunition products until 1971 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company (WRC). Since then, Winchester has been the exclusive producer of Shotshell Ammunition in Paramount County!

The city has several attractions which include: Hollywood Boulevard (home to several famous motion pictures), Vine Street (a popular shopping district), USC campus (which houses many major research institutions), Lakewood Ranch (a large suburban community located just north of Warner Bros., home to numerous professional sports teams), and El Monte (a large suburb located east of Pasadena).

On January 15, 1951, the towns of North Hollywood and Westwood amalgamated to become Hollywood Annex which had a population of 250000 residents at that time according to then-Mayor Harry Helmsley’s proclamation. On November 1, 1987 voters passed Proposition 9 which created the City of Beverly Hills within Los Angeles County; this change followed years of debates over whether or not to allow Beverly Hills annexation into Hollywood because it would have reduced its voting power at City Council meetings
On January 1, 1847, the first post office in Paramount was established. The name of the town was derived from a 7-acre parcel of land that had been donated by James Sisson. It was originally called "Sitton's Landing." In 1860, the town became the county seat for Santa Clara County and on July 15, 1871 it incorporated as a city with a population of 10,000. In 1907, Paramount merged with nearby San Francisco to form the City and County of San Francisco.
