Palos Verdes Estates is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 63,598 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Fernando Valley and lies between Hollywood and Encino. The name Palos Verdes Estates comes from two small creek valleys that run through it: East Palo Alto Creek and West Palo Alto Creek. These creeks were named after Major General Manuel Nieto de la Vega y Costilla who served in the Mexican–American War (1846-48). In 1868, Captain James Hutton of the U.S. Marines explored these valleys while on his way to survey land for Rancho Palos Verdes which he would later purchase from Mexico for $3 million dollars. In 1887, John D'Angelo got married to Maria Elena Swartzman in what was then known as "the happiest day of his life." This event made Palos Verdes Estates one of Southern California's most prestigious communities because it marked the first time a white woman had set foot inside its borders since they had been conquered by Spanish explorers over 200 years earlier. On July 14, 1907, Governor Hiram Johnson signed into law an act entitled "An Act to establish a town in Los Angeles County" with a population of 10,000 people within five years or less; this act created three townships: West Hillsborough Township on the east side of Los Angeles County (now Gardena) and East Hillsborough Township on the west side (now Jurupa Valley), both within Orange County; Northridge Township on the north side just outside of downtown LA; and South Pasadena Township on behalf of homeownership rights granted by Congress to certain citizens residing southward thereof within reclamation boundaries then under consideration by virtue of Specification No.: 1b covering lots lying eastwest along State Street between Pershing Boulevard and Flowery Drive." It should be noted that although all three townships were founded simultaneously pursuant to this same legislation – with their respective populations announced six days apart – their names have changed significantly over time: West Hillsborough became Northridge in 1911; East Hillsborough became Jurupa Valley in 1927; South Pasadena became La Crescenta Heights in 1988; and Northridge has remained unchanged ever since (although now part of Irvine). A third township - Torrance - was established adjacent to City Hall approximately two miles northwest of Downtown LA but never reached its population target due largely to disagreements about how much development should take place there versus downtown proper. In 1969 Torrance successfully lobbied state legislators to create itself as an official city status rather than suffer extinction like its counterparts but died again when unofficially annexed byLA only six years later. According to historian Dragan Popovic writing for "LATimes", "What happened next [in annexation] can best be described as an exercise in futility...Torrance applied for incorporation numerous times but always lost because no one wanted it". Today Torrance remains unincorporated territory governed by its own board member plus Public Works Department staff

Binoculars had been around since ancient times and were commonly used by troops in war to see far away objects better than if they were able to look at them directly. In 1795, Frenchman Jean-Jacques Rousseau designed and built his own binoculars which became popular among military officers during World War I because they could see more details at night than anyone else! A major advancement in optics came about during World War II when Japanese engineers created what is now called a kamikaze flying bomb which was used against Allied forces during WWII. By seeing through enemy lines and spotting targets from high up, kamikazes were able to hit very quickly without being detected by radar or fighter aircraft!
