Palos Verdes Estates, California (PV) is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 205,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Fernando Valley metropolitan area. Palos Verdes Estates is located on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County and borders Orange County to the south and east, Ventura County to the north and west, and Inland Empire counties of Southern California to the northwest. The town began as one small settlement developed along an agricultural route that ran through present day Ventura and Los Angeles Counties in 1887. By 1910, when Orange County was formed from parts of both Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, Palos Verdes Estates had grown sufficiently large for its own statehood referendum that year. There is a long and varied history of the AR-15 upper receiver. It has been used by hunters, shooters, law enforcement officers and others for over 50 years. The design changes have been minor compared to the advancements in firearms technology that have led to its widespread use today. The AR-15 Upper Receiver was designed by Jack Daniel's Sons in 1963 and first came into production in 1970. The rifle is made from billet aluminum with a phosphate coated finish making it resistant to corrosion and weathering. The first civilian AR-15 upper receivers were designed in 1976. They were made of aluminum and had a gasblock, barrel nut, and handguard attached directly to the receiver.

In 1849, the California Gold Rush had begun and by 1860, Palos Verdes Estates had become one of the most heavily populated areas in the state. However during World War I (1914-1918), Palos Verdes Estates was bombed by the Japanese military due to its strategic location on an airfield within range of Tokyo bombers. This resulted in significant damage to the town including extensive destruction of homes, businesses and infrastructure; however no loss of life occurred. After World War I ended,Palos Verdes Estates experienced rapid growth due to new housing developments being built throughout Southern California such as Century City and North Hollywood; however during the early 21st century there is growing concern that these areas may also be vulnerable to developers eyeing up new neighborhoods near major airports for development purposes. Due to this increased development potential around LAX Airport, Palos Verdes Estates has been working hard to develop strategies designed specifically for protecting their community while still allowing access for residents who need groceries or other basic needs without having their neighborhoods destroyed or disrupted by development projects (See: "What can PalosVerdesEstates do about airport development?"). One such strategy has been developing a nearby streetcar system that would allow residents living close enough to LAX Airport access not only grocerystores but also transportation options if they needed them - something that many residents have praised as helpful in helping keep their communities open even when times are tough.

In 1847, Palos Verdes Estates was incorporated as a town in the Los Angeles County. The post office at that time was called "Palo Alto." In 1868, it changed its name to "Palos Verdes Estates". On July 15, 1870, the first railroad line ran through Palos Verdes Estates when the Santa Fe Railroad connected with the Pacific Railroad at Mira Mesa. In 1876, Eastern Pacific Railroad built a line from Pasadena to Santa Monica. As this new line passed through Palos Verdes Estates, passenger traffic increased and so did business for local businesses. In 1902, Western Electric Telephone Company was founded in what is now West Covina. This company offered landlines and long-distance services within California and across the country.
