Wente continued operations until 1984 when it was discontinued along with other B&L subsidiaries due to competition from Japanese companies within optical industry. The remaining assets of Wente Optics Corporation were donated to Southern California Institute of Technology (SCIT) where they continue research and development on new features for riflescopes ever since
