In 1949, California Governor Goodwin Rusk signed Senate Bill 553 into law which created what is now known as Pomona College within then city limits of Los Angeles. In 1960, Pacific Southwest Gas Company built a gas pipeline through parts of Palmdale including present-day north side street names like Diamond Way and High Street that lead directly to Eastridge Station on Southern California Edison's electric grid
