The railroad arrived in 1885 with plans to connect Stockton with Bakersfield. instead, Route 66 soon followed as did other new transportation routes providing jobs and housing development throughout the valley until World War II when industry shifted away from agriculture to new places like Orange County and Riverside County. After years of decline following the end of manufacturing production in those counties, local businesses revived in the early 21st century with investments by Mayor Tom Bates in redeveloping downtown core areas such as North Park Mall (formerly known as Sears) and making progress towards revitalizing Highfields Shopping Center adjacent to Interstate 5 whereupon residential developments began bubbling up around I-5 south of town just past State Route 395 (the old Rancho Cucamonga Freeway). Today much of what once made up DowntownPalmdale remains vacant or underutilized due to lack of demand orination by developers but there are some pockets remaining such as South Park Mall which continues to attract high-end retail tenants despite having vacancies for years now; Liberty Station BART station redevelopment is ongoing which should bring more employment opportunities closer to town center; while efforts have been made at City Hall to revive an abandoned water tower/pumpkin patch next door thereto – all without damaging or displacing any residents – recentencroachment onto public open space elsewhere within town limits has led some people concerned about possible gentrification processes taking place rapidly adjacent unto densely populated neighborhoods while less developed areas remain neglected

In 1911 Palmdale became part of the newly created State of California. From then until his death in 1969, Governor Ronald Reagan was based in Claremont during his tenure as governor. He remains one of its most popular politicians due to his support for open markets policies which helped drive down rents throughout Southern California during this period; he also championed various other causes within the city including arts programs which have continued to thrive today despite challenges faced by some other metropolitan areas with similar populations/attractions (e.g., Anaheim).
