Gun targets have been a part of the history of Palm Springs, California for over 100 years. The first target to be set in Palm Springs was a goal post on White Sands Boulevard. The Post Office had the Targeting Annex located at 901 E. Indian Wells Rd. from 1906-1911 and again from 1914-1945. The first gun range in Palm Springs was established in 1911 by Mr. Grosse, who built it on his property east of town on White Sands Boulevard near what is now Interstate 10. It was used by both the military and civilians for target practice until it closed its doors in 1945 after many years of use. In 1952, when both the Military and Civilian Targets sections were combined into one organization under the name “ American outdoor Industries” Ltd., targets continued to be set at this location until 1957 when all activities were transferred to Armoury Range #1 (now known as Redlands Municipal Shooting Complex). There has been no gunfire at American Outdoor Industries Targets since then, although there are occasional displays or social events there that include shotguns and handguns for members of the public to shoot at; however, all shooting must take place within pistol club rules which prohibit any types of automatic firearms such as rifles and shotguns not registered with local police departments!

Gunpowder was invented by Gottlieb Brenneman in 1795, which allowed firearms to be shot more accurately than traditional cannonball ammunition. over time new challenges were posed to handgun shooters: such as the development of airguns and self-loading pistols, which made it possible for civilians to own firearms without needing state approval or training. Pistol shoots continued until around 1870 CE when they were replaced by rifle shoots under military auspices (specifically at Trap & Skeet matches). Beginning in 1876 CE, what is now known as IPSC® began conducting worldwide pistolshoot tournaments using replica antique pistols fabricated from high quality materials sourced from around the world (e.g., English walnut). These events continue today (and are now considered a major facet of modern pistol shooting) with participants from all over the globe descending on several host venues across North America and Europe each year. This unique event provides opportunities for shooters from different countries and cultures to come together under one roof and compete against one another at a level playing field!
