WhenPacifica, California was first established in 1872 as a small town on the edge of Yosemite National Park, it was known for its great natural beauty and its scopes. Today, Pacifica is a vibrant community that retains much of its history from when telescopes were common here. The first telescope in Pacifica was built by George Morrison in 1872. It was the largest telescope at the time and it helped to promote astronomy and science in the area. In 1903, a new telescope was built in Pacifica called the "Omelek" which helped to improve views of sky around the area. Pacifica is a town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. It is located on the east bank of the*/San Joaquin River, near where it flows into the Sacramento River. The population was 27,539 at the 2010 census. Pacifica is also home to many agricultural and ranching operations that are important to its economy. The first European to visit what is now Pacifica was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542 during his expedition from Spain across North America. In 1847, United States Commodore John D'Estern delivered an advance party of American soldiers and sailors from Stockton on the north shore of San Francisco Bay to explore what lay beyond Mission Dolores. One member of this group, named George Wright (1807-80), became interested in exploring land on what is now Pacifica Peninsula and sent out a reconnaissance party in 1849 which discovered fertile soil and large rivers flowing southward into Sacramento Valley. This initial exploration by Americans led to plans for a new settlement called Riceville on some high ground overlooking the river mouth; however, due to flooding caused by heavy rains soon afterward, this project was abandoned. In 1851 Mexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered General Cosmas Pico to march against US forces stationed at Yolo County's Rancho Rinconada but were unable to rout them despite great losses inflicted by Pico’s men over several weeks beginning October 12th until December 5th when reinforcements arrived under Ulysses S Grant’s command after Santa Anna surrendered at Buena Vista Creek near modern-day Antioch. At this point most Mexicans had withdrawn southeastward along with their livestock into Mexico City while American troops continued their occupation of southern California; only a few hundred native Californians living around Acton still retained some connection with their ancestral homeland even though they were no longer able or unwilling subjects of Spanish rule On January 1st 1865 Wm Halsey took command of Union Army units besieging Monterrey resulting in Texas becoming part of Confederate America as well as bringing an end finally all Anglo-American efforts at colonization within Californias borders The town site chosen for Pacifica was surveyed by Captain George Wright in 1850 but no building proceeded until May 1861 when two adobe buildings were erected one facing Main Street and one facing Telegraph Road/Rancho Wellesley which served as Post Office and Jail respectively . On November 17th 1861 James Hutton offered free land for incorporation if necessary . Incorporation took place on January 2nd 1862 with fifty acres lot being set aside for post office building including lot for jail cells . The first postmaster General James Atherton served from 1862 until 1865 when he was replaced by Hiram Gifford who moved up through grades It should be noted that there are three versions about how early "Paco" came ashore: one says he landed craft upon some low hills near present day Folsom Field while another version has him landing further downriver opposite modern day Lafayette where he built several huts before proceeding inland towards eastern Sierra foothills whence he founded Palo Alto

Today, Pacifica has over 650 member organizations located in more than 160 countries across six continents.
