It lies on the Peninsula of San Francisco Bay and is bounded by the Golden Gate Bridge to the north, Marin County to the east, and Contra Costa County to the south. Pacifica has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. The first Europeans to visit what is now Pacifica were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo (1497–1542) and Gaspar de Portolà (1769–1845). In 1821 Humboldt sailed past what is now Pacifica on his way from Manila to Santa Cruz; he called it "the most interesting bay in North America." The next year American Commodore John D'Arcy Perry sent USS Perry into San Francisco Bay looking for a port so Perry could attack Mexico. He sighted a small ship off The Rocks on June 17, 1825 while sailing downriver from Point Conception towards Monterey. Ashore they discovered a group of Native Americans who had been living among them for years - they were called Alvarado's Mission Indians (from Spanish: "Alvarado's Fort"). The day after landfall, Perry reported his discovery to Captain James Cook at HMS Beagle which then sail'dround Cape Horn. The town of Pacifica was platted in 1847 by Zeno Klemens von Wiedemann as part of Rancho Rinconada Mexican land grant near modern-day Albany or Redwood City. On May 10th 1850 John Sutter founded an agricultural colony called Sutter's Mill in present-day Sausalito with over 60 families aboard ship bark "Sutter" arriving May 20th 1850 After landing many people decided not to establish their homes ashore but set up shop inland near present-day Primer Street & Third Avenue also known as Sutter's Mill Road today Harbor Freight Center Drive.) Wiedemann sold Rancho Rinconada piece by piece starting with 2/3rds of an acre each until all became part of town lot that was surveyed at $2 per acre Feb 3rd 1853 when platting began for townsite including name change from Primer Street SettlementPoint settlement point being moved east about one half mile due south then renamed “Pacifica” less than 1/4 mile away from original site prior settlers had named their settlement after flower didn’t like look so changed again Dec 15th 1863 when changing hands between widow Beatrice Richardson Landrine her husband Samuel Richardson who had purchased majority interest Jan 9th 1865 from Mrs Clethal Fenton she also got title becoming owner of Town lots 5 acres & included current building sites facing First Street still does business under new name today as Starbucks Coffee) With help from dollar bills some early buildings such as Masonic Lodge #8 built in 1850 inside lot now occupied by Lighthouse Museum ) came down during 1906 earthquake when entire town center collapsed killing nearly everyone inside except those hiding under local barns which survived til time frame closedtown limits returned back up giving residents hope before massive reopening hrs later no damage done) 1st storey only two stories high fire destroyed top story April 1861 Store burned several months later finally demolished Oct 15th 1865 as result of large fire started by men working on mill roof Top story still standing today

Pacifica is a census-designated place in San Mateo County, California. The population was 13,651 at the 2010 census, up from 11,912 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Santa Clara Valley region. The name "Pacifica" comes from two sources: one originates from Native American words meaning "the wide ocean," and another derives from Spanish phrase "Página de Sur" which means "page of south." The first reference to the community appeared on maps dating back to 1876. Pacifica had its start as a small farming town located on the west side of San Francisco Bay. At that time it was only known as a stopping point for travelers coming up the Peninsula. In 1887, Pacifica received municipal status and began expanding into what is now eastern San Mateo County. In 1907 Pacifica became an unincorporated community when it amalgamated with nearby Atherton and formed Atherton-Pacifica Townsite which still exists today as an incorporated community with its own governing body - The Board of Directors for Atherton-Pacifica Townsite Inc.. In 1916, during World War I, Pacifica became an airfield serving military personnel stationed in and around San Francisco Bay Area Airfields #3 (San Bruno), #4 (Richmond) and #8 (Fremont). After the war ended in 1919, many soldiers returned home but some continued to live in Pacifica until they moved out of state or left California altogether. In 1967 Northern Californians who were opposed to Govt.'s plan to build Interstate 680 through their area filed suit claiming that there would be negative consequences for their economy if such a project were approved; this led to Proposition 65 being passed which barred any person over 21 years old from using public lands without getting written consent from both parties involved - including Pacifica residents then living on those lands!Thus beginning what has been called "the Great Disappointment", not one building or infrastructure had been built within our town since 1967... even though much progress had been made between then and now! In 1974 following passage of Proposition 13 by voters in California state legislature meant that homeowners were no longer able to sell their homes immediately upon sale rather they would have to wait six months after making all required payments before selling again; this caused mass layoffs among businesses owners throughout the city due to plummeting property values overnight! Consequently continuing economic decline followed throughout most of the 1970s concurrent with other issues faced by communities across America due to shift away from manufacturing towards services sector jobs! By 2007 about 60% percent of all physical assets within town boundaries had expired along with most human resources having also departed many years ago leaving very little reason remaining for anyone currently residing within our once thriving community... alas... another great disappointment!!
