A significant event in the history of Pacifica, California was the incorporation of the community on May 15, 1961. Prior to this date, the land that makes up present-day Pacifica was occupied by a group of Native American people who called it Kumeyaay. The name comes from an Indian word meaning "place where you can see whales." The first European immigrants to Pacifica were German traders who arrived in 1849 and found few settlers living on their holdings. In 1861, two brothers from Bavaria named Christian and Wilhelm Hoffmann founded a farmstead about one mile south of present-day Pacifica. They leased out part of their property for $4 per acre. The Hoffmans were among the early pioneers to set foot in what is now Pacifica when it was still part of San Francisco County. Their purchase made space for about 150 residents and generated some initial controversy because they were not authorized by California officials to sell alcohol without first obtaining government permission. However, within months of its incorporation as a town, PACIFICA had developed a strong economy based principally on agriculture and fishing along its shores. PACIFICA rapidly became known throughout Northern California as a place where talented artists could work undisturbed while enjoying excellent scenery and access to local resources. By 1969, PACIFICA had grown so large that it decided to move into its own municipally run building – which remains extant today – and began to attract more outsiders with its highly respected arts scene. In 1984, PACIFICA merged with nearby Sausalito to form what is now known as Marin Community College District #2 (MCCD2). Since then, PacifiCal has seen several expansions as new neighborhoods have been annexed intoPACIFICA: North Marin in 1998; South Marin in 2002; Tiburon in 2004; Bremerton Island in 2006; Wildomar in 2010; Quilanhoe Heights in 2012; etc.) In recent years there has also been talk of annexing other communities located adjacent or nearPacifica’s shoreline such as Mill Valley or Woodside/ Upper Rockaway but no final decisions have yet been made

In 1957, KNX moved its transmission site to its current location at 7500 West Pico Boulevard in Pacifica – making it one of the first community stations in North America to have its own transmitter located within its boundaries! Pacifica, California was founded in 1853 by Captain John L. Polk and his wife, Anna Maria. At first it was named Yerba Buena Cove for the bucolic setting but soon changed to its present name because of the presence of the bay and the large number of porpoises that frequent it. The small town quickly became a center for whaling and shipbuilding, with businesses such as Jardine & Co., Foard's Wharf, and Ayer Shipyard dotting the downtown area. In 1907, when San Francisco annexed Jackson Heights (Pacifica's eastern neighbor), Pacifica became part of San Francisco proper. However, its unique history continued to be celebrated by many until well into the 21st century. In 1853 Captain John L. Polk established himself in what is now Pacifica after purchasing land from Juan Bautista de Anza at what is now Point Reyes National Seashore Boulevard and Cedar Street on Marin County's south coast. After a few years exploring Yerba Buena Cove he decided that an opening near Monterey Bay would provide better access to shipping traffic than any other spot on earth while still preserving some privacy for his family members who operated their vessels out of their homeport during those early days before roads were built or cell phone service was available). He started construction on his dream home on land which he purchased from De Anza just north of where Highway 1 now meets Point Reyes Boulevard – this location would become known as "Polk's Beach." Captain Polk had no idea how successful his little community would become so he quickly began building more homes and later bought additional landward extending Ocean View Avenue east which today forms much of Griffith Park off-ramp from Interstate 280 near Muir Woods National Monument - all these amenities made him one very busy man! The citizens of Pacifica quickly got together to form a town charter dated February 12th, 1854 which set forth certain basic liberties including election of officials including two constables per 100 residents; banning gambling; prohibition against hunting bear or deer without special permits; fees for obtaining firewood; prohibiting sale or giving away alcoholic drinks without prior written consent fromcertain business owners - all items that continue to be important today! A year later on May 10th 1855 Commodore James Cushing sailed into Monterey Bay with HMS Beagle bound for Antarctica but lost sight of him about 120 miles northeast thereof due To strong winds blowing around Cape Horn! Upon returningCushing reported that "the North American Continent" extended far beyond Chile!" This exciting news roused interest throughout California real estate agents who were eager to purchase any acreage found inlandpossessing potential Antarctic applications! So it wasn't long before people in Pacifica realized they had something special here...something worth developing! In 1861 Captain John L. Polk donated $10 000 towards erection of new barracks for military forces stationed in Los Angeles adjacent to Point Conception Island in order serve southern California troops during hostilities with Mexico over Texas annexation - this donation paved way for future California governors like George Hearn (1912-1915) and Hiram Johnson (1917-1920) being born within earshotof military activity taking place aboard Point Conception Island! Today you can tour these facilities located off Harbor Blvd between Egan Ave & PCH Rd just south Of Tower Bridge - give them a try if you're in Southern California visiting Santa Monica or Malibu beaches!!

The first permanent Europeans to set foot in what is now Pacifica, California were the Spanish in 1821. The area was part of Mexico before the Mexican-American War and then it became part of the United States following the war.
