In 1957, the telephone company moved its headquarters from Bakersfield to Pacifica. In 1959, Pacifica became an incorporated town with a population of 7 people per square mile (2/km²). The first crops were grown here: hay and vegetables for local markets; fruits and nuts for export to other parts of California; fiber for making twill fabric; lumber; and dairies producing milk and eggs. Today's economy centers around agriculture products such as fruits and vegetables, cattle Rancho Bernardo cattle ranching, manufacturing services such as apparel production or plastics manufacturing, light truck sales by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Company (TMMC), evangelical religion through Pastor Raymundo Sanchez's Grace Bible Church congregation which has been meeting since 1978 on the former home of Lillian Hellman.,and retail development including a KFC restaurant.; There are also several businesses that provide services such as surveying services or home repairs through companies like Western Union

In 1906, after four years of wrangling among various political factions over land use issues within the newly formed city limits, Pacifica City Council voted to annex all of Sunol as well as portions of Dogpatch and Visitacion Valley south of I-580. The annexation increased PAC's population by more than 50%. During World War II, much activity took place within or around the new city limits due to military installations such as Marine Air Station El Toro (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord) and Naval Air Station Victorville which were built nearby on Point Reyes National Seashore between Marin County and Sonoma County.
