Pacific Grove, California is a small town in San Luis Obispo County, California on the Pacific Coast. It is located just north of Arroyo Seco Creek and east of Interstate 5. The town was first settled in 1853 by American citizens who were attracted to the mineral wealth found there. Today, Pacific Grove is considered an enclave of affluent working-class residents and its economy depends upon tourism and agriculture. The firstOptical Instrument Company was established in Pacific Grove in 1885 by three men from New York City: Edward Hirschhorn, Franklin Bache and Abraham Wechsler. By 1907, the company had become a leading player in the optical industry with facilities at 14th Street and G Street in downtown Pacific Grove. In 1925, Harry Rosenwald purchased the company from its founders for $2 million dollars. Rosenwald's passion for optics led him to create one of America's largest optical companies - one that would spearhead technological advances in advanced photography, television set design and advertising media). At Rosenwald's death in 1948, his family retained control over the business until it was sold to Raytheon Corporation in 1985. In 1929, Farnsworth Phonograph Corporation became a subsidiary of Radio Corporation of America (RCA) under ownership by Walter Hagenbeck Jr., president of CBS Radio Laboratories (CBS). With RCA as its primary partner, Farnsworth continued developing new audio technology including headphones and loudspeakers while working on video equipment such as portable radios and VCRs

Pacific Grove is a small town in the Santa Cruz County of California, located on the south coast of San Francisco Bay. The population was 8,657 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Redwood City, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pacific Grove has been inhabited by various tribes for centuries and its name comes from two different places: "Pākī" meaning place where lotus flowers grow and "Grow" which means to build or construct something. The first European to visit this area was Captain John Davenport in 1769 who named it Point Pinos because he saw a hill with sharp rocks projecting out from it. The first post office in Pacific Grove was established in 1857 and still exists today. In 1878, James Fenton opened a store here that became one of the leading retail businesses in town. William Keith built his home here in 1892 and continues to live there today as one of Pacific Grove's most well-known residents. Many local churches were founded during this time including Our Lady Of Perpetual Help (1902), St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church (1912), First Baptist Church (1920), and Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Cathedral (1992). In 1957, US Highway 101 was extended through town limits making it easier for people to get around without having to go down Main Street or side streets which are now closed off for car parking or other purposes. As time passed and new development took place within town limits, many old buildings were demolished or converted into housing developments such as Mission Bay Village (1995) and Sacred Heart Village (2006). A major expansion project called Crossroads began in 2007 and concluded in 2009 when all but 3 blocks of Main Street were restored to their original condition with new sidewalks, streetlights, pavement, trees, bushes, etcetera while also adding new businesses such as a grocery store/cafeteria/theater complex known as Regency Park Commons LLC., an electronic commerce firm known as Geektown USA LLC., and a health spa known as Zen Wellness Center (). Today, much of what once comprised historic downtown pacific grove remains untouched including several dozen Victorian homes dating back to 1860-1870 that can still be seen from Market Street up until just past Fourth Avenue near Interstate 5; these homes have been leased out for private functions such as weddings & photo ops since their purchase by the city last year4 . During World War II, many Pacific Grove residents served in the U.S military including General James Van Fleet who commanded naval forces during the Battle of Midway; Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz who led Navy forces during Operation Torch; Colonel Robert Haida who directed army troops during Operation Market Garden; Lieutenant Commander John Healy Lightoller who became famous as captain of HMS "Dreadnought" during World War I; and Major General George Marshall whose headquarters were located at Fort Point on Signal Hill before he was appointed Chief of Staff for Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe in Normandy. The community also hosted numerous other events such as an ice skating rink opened by Mayor Raymond Burr in 1941 that still operates today, an auto race meet held each year on Memorial Day weekend from scratch Oval track to accommodate 400 cars., golf tournaments both public and private throughout summer months featuring top local professional professionals along with childrens' games contests held annually on Presidents' Day weekend., arts festivals throughout fall/winter season headlined by popular Broadway shows being performed at various venues within townincluding Stroudsburg PlayhouseTheater & PACG Hall & Recital Hall In recent years some concerns have been raised about potential effects of climate change on coastal communities like Pacific Grove which sit near major metropolitan areas with large populations like Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area which are experiencing significant increases in average temperatures over their preindustrial eras. Some people have called for action to be taken to address these issues such as reducing energy consumption or increasing alternative energy options.
Pacific Grove was founded in 1795 by the Reverend John P. Gray and his wife, Katherine. The couple had come from Boston to found a mission town in what is now southern California. Pacific Grove's first settlers were Quakers, who believed in using natural resources for the benefit of all humanity. The town grew quickly, and by 1853 it had a population of about 200 people. In 1858, Pacific Grove became part of the newly created region of Southern California known as "The Gold Country." During the gold rush years (1859-1868), many pioneers arrived at Pacific Grove looking for riches. Some men even built collapsed mining camps here to exploit the local quartzite resources. By 1865, however, most of the gold had been mined out and Pacific Grove's economy began to decline. However, there were some residents who continued to live here during these difficult times. One such person was Alfred Jarry, who achieved great success as an author and editor during this time period. Jarry also helped create a number of important cultural institutions in Pacific Grove including the First Baptist Church (founded in 1869),the First Methodist Episcopal Church (founded in 1870), andthe Park Avenue Presbyterian Church (founded in 1886). In 1918, when Orange County was created within Los Angeles County,Pacific Grove lost its status as an independent city but continued to grow economically until its decline following World War II when oil prices plummeted.)
