In 1912, "The Ventura County News", also published in Oxnard, began publication. It would continue to publish until 1959 when it merged with the "Oxnard Herald". In 1915, "Gun World" magazine arrived in Oxnard and it continues to be published today. It was founded by Harry Elmore White and is now owned by Hearst Corporation.
Oxnard, California is a city in Ventura County, California. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern coast of Ventura County and on the border of Los Angeles County. The first Europeans to visit Oxnard were maritime people from Portugal who sailed into Ventura Bay in 1542 looking for passage to Asia. They named the bay "Oxi" after an old Indian word meaning "shore." In 1876, prospectors discovered gold near present-day Oxnard and began developing the area. The town was founded by James Irvine in 1879 as Oxnard Beach because there was no other place with water access available. By 1883, there were over 100 businesses in town and it had a population of 2,000. In 1902, oxcartloads of sandstone worth $1 million were mined here; this made Oxnard one of the richest towns in America at that time. In 1916, World War I ended andOXNARD came out victorious! As part of munitions production during World War II, many factories were built here including Hawthorne Aircraft Industries which produced Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters for USAAF during WWII (the first jet fighter). After World War II ended development stopped but other businesses continued such as Nike Corporation who manufactured shoes here until their closure in 1984 due to poor performance ratings throughout most of their history ioxnard's economy changed when Ronald Reagan became President and he decided to move his presidential retreat from Washington D.C., so much so that Nike's CEO resigned after only three months because he could not get support from then-President George H W Bush for them to continue operations uninterrupted within Washington D.C.. This left Oxnard with little economic activity outside its military roots until recent years when tourism has become a major focus followed by residential subdivisions such as Carlsbad Hills which are well known for their golf courses

Oxnard is a city in Ventura County, California. The population was 997 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Ventura County and part of the Greater Oxnard area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Oxnard were Spanish Missionaries in 1769. The present town was founded on March 14, 1871 by Wm. H. Beall and James Fenton as a result of the Rancho Santa Anita land grant given to them by Governor Pío Pico. The name "Oxnard" was chosen because it sounded like an English word, "Oxon." In 1884, John Davenport opened his mercantile store at 1011 Simons Blvd., which became one of the main economic engines in town until it closed its doors in 1922. In 1908, local newspapers started publishing a monthly magazine called "The Oxnard Enterprise". This magazine continued publication until 1966 when it merged with another paper, "The Ventura Herald", creating what is now known as "Herald-Express". In 1916, Oxnard had its first gasoline station and since then has been powered by petroleum products - much like many other towns across America during that time period that relied heavily on oil production for their economy. During World War II there were two air raid shelters built in Oxnard - one near parallel First Street and Broadway (now Fourth Street) and one near Third Street and Broadway (now Fifth Street). Both shelters were enlarged after the war to accommodate more people and also served as community kitchens during wartime times when food was short in rural areas like Oxnard. OXNARD COMMUNITY COLONY: On October 5th 1944 residents ofoxnardcoastlinevillage formed an organization known asthe oxford community colony through correspondence coursework from registered members from various villages throughout california .This organizationinitially consistedof twelve membereswith headquarters located at 210 Simons Boulevard where Mr Johns running store operated ..the colony grew rapidly into an autonomous unit performing many functions within oxnard such as social services for the poor, employment opportunities for needy citizens, education for children residing within our boundaries , cooperative extension work thru county library system;and most importantly creating access to clean water thru wells drilled within our boundaries
In 1846, Oxnard was founded as an unincorporated town by businessman and politician Nathan Weldon. The town was named for the oxen that were used to pull his wagonloads of goods from the local mines. Weldon had heard about a large area of land in Ventura County that had been offered for sale, and decided to move his businesses and people to the new community. The first post office was established in Oxnard on July 1, 1847. By 1850, Oxnard had a population of around 100 residents. In 1857, the city of Ventura was incorporated, and it took over responsibility for managingOxnard's affairs. During World War II, Oxnard played an important role in the United States military as a manufacturing center for aircraft production. Many American bombers were produced at Oxnard's plant until it closed in 1945. Since its closure, many other businesses have opened up inOxnard including restaurants, bars and nightlife venues. One of the most recent additions to this bourgeoning business scene is The Solstice which opened up shop last year in what has been described as one of downtownOxnard’s most ambitious projects ever conceived
