In 1827, Mexican troops under General José Joaquín Murría invaded California and burned Los Angeles while fleeing from American forces commanded by General Stephen Kearny, who had captured them at Adobe Walls on December 6 that year. When Native Americans learned about this event they raided wagon trains travelling downriver which caused many people to flee for their lives including Carrillo. He moved his family into what is now downtown Oroville after spending some time trying to find new land further down the stream. At that point most everyone lived close by either along US 41 or just outside town limits so there wasn't much need for housing until after World War II when roads were constructed closer within town limits and more people started moving into the area. By 1960 only 5% of the population remained living within town limits while 95% resided elsewhere within Siskiyou County or Yosemite National Park! The last resident was born in 1941! Today very few people live inside city limits due to traffic congestion as well as high taxes which have made it difficult for businesses to survive here since state government doesn't provide any funding for public transportation or development projects outside of downtown which hurts tourism too much!
