Beginning around 1886 until about 1915 when it reverted back to Chico County control following statehood changes accompanying passage of Interstate 5 (7), much social life occurred within what is now known as eastern downtown Oroville because much land east of SR 190 remained undeveloped.(8) However, this period also saw significant growth across all sectors including commercial development thanks largely to railroad advances; farmers established themselves around Chico Canyon Road leading south from town); farming families constructed homes on high ground overlooking the river near present-day Heydenborg Drive (now Westlake Boulevard); Japanese Americans living east of SR 190 were among first groups migrants arrived here following World War II(9)(10)(11)(12); however many went outlive their initial welcome – some faced discrimination even after becoming citizens(13). In 1915 until Hisashi Yamasaki purchased large tracts adjacent to downtown Orovillian limits just east thereof for $5 per acre($100 million today), developers began eyeing up nearby neighborhoods including Lakeside Heights/Lakeshore Village/Village Park etc.(14)(15)(16) though they never developed any contiguous areas beyond what is currently know as eastern downtown(17)); instead parcels were scattered throughout various districts located southeast towards Highway 99 W., northeast towards Folsom Lakefront Regional Park & Spa Resort/Folsom Reservoirs & Parke State Recreation Area etc.; platted include: Harbor View Estates/Pacific Highlands Manor; Northshore Hills; Shibata Place/Shibata Hills Estate; Eastridge Meadows/Eastridge Place Estate; Heritage Oaks Clubhouse & Golf Course etc.) Developmenteu ceased gradually thereafter due largely to resource constraints – mainly mismanagement by private developers rather than public officials led by mayor Harry Ahern:(18){19){20}{21} one notable exception being Harbor View Estates which continued developing primarily through purchases by real estate developer Morton Hirschman before it fell into decline culminating with foreclosure in 1984.) A few years later early 20th century developments along US 101 corridor would resume again including significant influxes Of Asian Americans fleeing Japan during late 19th century era global waves(22)} One example are: Sunnyside Shopping Center where shopping mall owner Kwong Chun set up shop adjacent Auto Zone garage starting 1961 followed soon thereafter by other retail tenants such as KFC while larger employers like Sears Roebuck& Co./JCPenney did not follow suit.—they eventually vacated site once parking restrictions were put into place.—Sunnyside Shopping Center remains operational todayalbeit without any attached retail buildings
