Orinda is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 25,623 at the 2010 census. Orinda is located in-between Modesto and Fresno County and is north of Sacramento. Orinda's name comes from two Inupiat words meaning "New Town." The first word means "place where new things are born" while the other word means "a place to go fishing." The history of Orinda begins with European exploration in 1846 when Captain John C. Fremont traveled through this area on his way to Oregon. He noted that there was much forest and water available east of Bakersfield, but no settlements were established until 1852 when ranchers discovered oil reserves near present-day Orinda. The discovery brought entrepreneurs such as George Henniker and James Worthy to the area, which quickly became a center for oil production and ranching interests. In 1906, after years of development work by several groups including the Chamber of Mines and Industry, Orinda was incorporated as a town onancock vecinity plat #2 (now part of downtown). At that time it had a population of about 100 people. The approved boundaries for town included all or parts of present-day Downtown Modesto as well as portions of what are now northbound Interstate 5 and southbound State Route 101A (now known as Old US 101A). Today, most residents within the original boundaries live within what is now northernmost Downtown Modesto - bounded by First Street on the northwest side; Mission Avenue on the southeastside; Third Street on the southwest side; Euclid Avenue on topography maps typically considered eastern Riverside County line - extending eastward into northeastern San Joaquin County beyond that line altogether

Orinda was founded in 1871 by prospectors who were looking for gold in what is now Nevada. ORINDO WAS PLANTED ON A MOUNTAIN, ABOUT 8 MILES NEAR THE CENTER OF THE AREA, AND ITS FIRST BUSINESS WAS TO PICK UP WINE FOR SOLDERS FIGHTING IN NORTH CAUSEWAY. ORINDO MANAGED TO STAND UP TO FURTHER Expansion OF GOLD Rush LANDERS, EVEN AFTER THEY MOVED INTO OTHER PARTS OF CALIFORNIA. ITS OFFICIAL NAME WAS GRAHAM COUNTY BUT IT WAS REchristened ORINDO in 1915 WHEN THE STATE CHAMBER OF PUBLIC WORKS APPROVED A NEW NAME FOR COUNTIES THAT INCLUDES ALL OF WHAT NOW IS ORINDA COUNTY. The first settlers arrived here during the early 1800s when it was still part of Mexico and there were no natural resources to be found here so the men had to find other ways to make money such as mining or ranching. By 1881 there were over 100 families living in Orinda and all sorts of businesses including hotels, grocery stores, shops, banks and more. Of course, with this growth came problems like crime and prostitution which led to some changes such as prohibition of alcohol in 1911 which made things worse but also made Orinda an even stronger community because it not afraid to stand up against anything that would hurt its economy or reputation. In 1957 the first high school opened in Orinda and since then the town has seen many great changes with many new businesses opening up including a hospital, a library and now even a Walmart! Today Orinda is known for its beautiful architecture along with its vibrant culture that celebrates diversity through art, music and food!
Orinda was founded in 1866 by J.W. Beyer and named for his wife, Orinda Beyer. The town was originally located on the banks of the San Joaquin River, but it relocated to its present location in 1865 when a canal was built through that area. The original store and post office were both destroyed in a fire in 1881, but the town rebuilt quickly and continued to grow until it reached its current size. In 1916, Orinda became part of the Del Norte County local government and has since been governed by that agency.
