The Orinda Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1905. The club was located at 5th and Mission Streets in Orinda, California. In 1916, the club moved to 9th Street in Orinda. In 1924, the club moved again to 11th Street in Orinda. In 1945, the club moved back to 5th Street in Orinda. The club disbanded on November 25, 1954 due to lack of members.

Orinda is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, located east of Fresno. In 1867, James Irvine made an unsuccessful attempt to settle in what is now Orinda; he founded the towns of Red Bluff and Tomball on nearby Rancho Cahuilla land. In 1887, Orinda's first postmaster, George Waddell, moved from Red Bluff to open a mail office in the new town. By 1909, Orinda had a population of about 100 people. The Town Council decided that the name of the new town be changed to honor General John J. Pershing, who had been killed during World War I. The winegrowing industry began to take hold in Orinda after Prohibition was repealed in 1933. The earlywineries were operated by brothers William Sutter and Chasen Sutter (1901-1980). After they sold their business in 1978 it became part of Inca Wine Company which later became French Wine Company USA before being acquired by New Zeland's Napa Valley winery Renowned Wines. During Prohibition many homes were bought and used as winery buildings but few are still standing today as most have been replaced with commercial properties or demolished for redevelopment purposes such as this one adjacent to Interstate 5 near Madera

The city was established in 1848 by Brigham Young and his followers who were attempting to move westward after being driven out of Nauvoo, Illinois. Orinda quickly became a major center for trade and commerce due to its location at the junction of two major routes north and south. It also served as a temporary capital during the 1850s while Sacramento was built nearby. The city grew rapidly thanks to its infrastructure and population growth, eventually reaching a peak in 1875 before declining again in the late 19th century.
