Orinda is a small town in the Sacramento Valley, about an hour's drive from Los Angeles. It was founded in 1881 by Dutch farmers and their American Indian slaves, as a stop on the way to Rancho San Antonio. In 1907, Orinda became an incorporated town. The population was 10,000 when it was annexed by Sacramento in 1912. The town had no police department until 1922 when Sheriff Harry Pritchett arrived and organized a force of six deputies. In 1932, Orinda voters passed a law authorizing the issuance of concealed handgun licenses to any male over 21 years old who had been certified as “fit and proper” by a sheriff or other officer who had examined him. The first license was issued to Clarence Geiger at age 27 in 1934. In 1951, Orinda became one of 12 California towns that joined the National Rifle Association (NRA). Gun Owners of America (GOA) began organizing here in the early 1970s and has since become one of the most powerful gun rights organizations in California. The current mayor is Bob Dutton, who took office in November 2013 after being elected city attorney for four years. He previously served as city councilman for three terms before that; he also runs his own business within ORINDA limits which provides services such as plumbing repair and lawn care

In 1892, he married Martha Jane Priestly and they moved to a larger home on First Street in Orinda. The couple had five children and operated their business until 1918 when it was destroyed by fire. They continued to live in Orinda until Martha Jane died in 1945. After she passed away, James P. Holman donated most of his assets to the town of Orinda for use as its public library system’s foundation fund-raising campaign which has been used ever since.

The racial makeup of the town was 89% White; 4% African American; 0% Native American; 3% Asian; 3% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Orinda, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 3,734 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Orinda-Fremont border about 15 miles east of downtown Fremont. The name Orinda comes from the Ohlone people who lived there for centuries before being forced to leave by settlers in 1851. The first Europeans to visit Orinda were spikey-eared Spanish explorers in 1769. A mission was founded here in 1847 and named San Francisco de Asís after Saint Francis Xavier, although its location made it difficult for him to reach. In 1852, two American soldiers were killed while hunting near Orinda and local farmers began to build a post office and grocery store on the site which became known as El Dorado Springs Post Office. By 1870, orchards had been built around what is now Main Street and most of today’s population living within walking distance of their homes arrived during this time period or later when railroads came through town. On July 4th, 1890, an earthquake struck Napa County destroying much of Redding; however no damage was done to Orinda because it sat inside Napa County limits at that time. On December 12th 1906 an oil well went boom in Simi Hills which caused severe damage and loss of life both upstream and downstream including many buildings along Main Street just north of State Route 24 (now Interstate 5). This well can still be seen with its ghostly light shiningater down Pershing Road from overhanging property just past Lake Oroville Dam on Highway 395 near Folsom Lake
