Orinda, California is a small town in the East Bay region of San Francisco. The population was 6,823 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of Orinda Lake and within easy walking distance of many of its parks and attractions. The town was settled in 1872 by Europeans who had come to the area to farm. Orinda's name comes from two oak trees that grew near the original town site. The first tree was cut down in 1872, but a second tree was plucked up and moved to where it stands today. I n 1892, Orinda became part of Contra Costa County when it was established as part of the newly formed county. It remained an unincorporated community until 1907 when it incorporated under its present name.
