The history of guns in Orange County, California can be traced back to the early 1800s. At that time, firearms were not commonly used in the area and most people used spears or bows and arrows. One of the first handguns to be created was a model made by George Washington Dixon in 1827. This gun was designed as a hunting weapon and it had an adjustable stock and a barrel that could be shortened for range use. In 1851, John Copley built the first gunsmith shop in Orange County. This shop was located on Wilmington Avenue between First Street and Second Street. The store was known for its fine firearms products and it became one of the leading Gun shops in California. In 1872, John Copley died and his son, Harry Copley took over his father’s business. Harry Copley ran the shop until his death in 1904. The next important owner of the business was James Wesson who purchased it from Harry Copley in 1907. Wesson renamed it “Wesson & Sockett” after himself and two other partners who had helped him start the company. After Wesson’s death in 1916, his wife Mabel took over running the business until her death in 1951. After Mabel’s death, her husband Norton bought out her share of the business and continued running it until his death in 1972. Norton also left behind a library of firearms books which is now part ofthe Orange County Library system. In 1976, Peter Sellers became management director at Wesson & Sockett Incorporated following their acquisition by Colt Firearms Corporation Incorporated.. Peter Sellers served as manager until he retired from Colt Firearms Corporation Incorporated on November 17th, 1992). Under Peter Sellers’ leadership at Colt Firearms Corporation Inc., there were several changes taking place within both Wesson & Sockett Incorporatedand Colt Firearms Corporation itself including: In 1979-80%, Floyd Patterson became Vice President – Marketing with responsibility for all marketing activities involving pistols (including development/production/marketing relationships with manufacturers) In 1984-85%, Alan Kulis joined forces with Dick Enberg to form ATK Company LLC (an armaments manufacturing subsidiary), responsible for all handgun sales outside of production facilities managed by Wesson & SockettIncorporation On October 3rd 1997 through negotiations between BATFE agentsfrom Northern California Bureauof Investigationin cooperation withe FBI , handgun manufacturer Iver Johnson agreed to provide data on total number fired during 1993 crime spree throughout US . This series will look at some of the most common firearms in history, from handguns to rifles, and explore their part-making story. In recent decades there have been dramatic changes to how guns are made and used. Firearms have become increasingly sophisticated and diverse, with new technologies being developed for both personal defense and commercial purposes. Amidst this change has come a growth in interest ingunpartshistory.com, a site dedicated to documenting firearm component history. The first firearms were constructed using simple wooden stocks with metal breechblocks or hammers attached directly to the stock by means of screws or nails. Over time these devices became less common as they were found themselves replaced by more advanced designs utilizing other metals (primarily brass) for internal parts and breechblocks/hammers for firing projectiles (see Fig 1). The development of metallic cartridges fed through rifled barrels led to an increasing number of pistols which could be fired with either shot or ball ammunition (see Fig 2), necessitating new types of parts for function within this type of weapon system (e.g., bolt carriers). In 1857 John Browning designed his first successful pistol using cartridge rounds which utilised a new type of hammer acting on Cooke bolts instead of nails (see Fig 3). By 1886 all energy-fed pistols had adopted centerfire cartridges which required separate hammer assemblies capable of firing multiple rounds simultaneously via Breechblock mechanism see Fig 4). Further refinement followed with mass production techniques capable not onlyof greatly reducing manufacturing costs but also providing reliable fire controls over large areas without any loss in accuracy over long periods (>30 shots per minute) see fig 5). It should be noted that while various types and models have been produced over the years numerous elements have remained constant including barrel lengths, chamber diameters etc., highlighting just how versatile firearms can be when put together correctly! Orange is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 117,092 at the 2010 census. It is the second-most populous city in Los Angeles County after Angelenos of Greater L.A., and the third-largest city in Orange County after Anaheim and Santa Ana. The first permanent settler in Orange was Nicholas Doheny, who arrived on horseback from New York City on October 14, 1847. Doheny moved to what is now downtown Orange on December 6 of that year. On February 3, 1850, Andrew White imported a small group of settlers from eastern Australia as part of the California Gold Rush and named them Irvine for Sir George Irvine (1795–1868), one of British India's first governors. In 1851 Augustus Kelley purchased land east of Doheny's original claim for $1 per acre ($40 per square mile). White sold his portion of Irvine to John Sutter in 1857 for $5 per acre ($160 per square mile). The townsite name change became Riverside on July 15, 1860 when knotty pine trees were brought overland by wagon trainloads from San Bernardino Mountains and cut down near Redlands Junction to build what would become downtown Irvine
