Orange Cove is a small town located in Inyo County, California. It was first settled in 1865 by the Ohlone people and has since been known for its citrus fruits, such as oranges, tangerines, and lemons. The town currently has a population of around 375 residents. The history of Orange Cove begins with the Ohlone People who lived in what is now Orange Cove before migrating to California in the late 1800s. The town was initially called Mission Viejo and later changed to Orange Cove after being given the name by General Antonio J. Armijo during his 1853 survey of Inyo County. In 1922, Orange Cove became an incorporated municipality under the jurisdiction of Mono Lake Village which at that time had a population of 1,500 residents. Shortly afterwards, however, it merged with neighboring Mono Lake Village to form the current city of Orange Cove which had a population of 375 residents as of 2015. The growth of Orange Cove has been due to its location on Highway 395 between San Bernardino and Los Angeles County; as well as its many businesses and services that have built up around it over the years including active agriculture (such as fruit orchards), manufacturing (including car tires), health care (including clinics and pharmacies), education (including two schools perfoming K-12th grade classes), and tourism (which has helped contribute to both economic development and outdoor recreation).

The history of Orange Cove goes back many years and reflects the winds that blow through this corner of America. The town was founded by Mormon pioneers who came from Utah in 1849 looking for new land to settle after being driven out of their previous home at Cedar City. They built their original cabin on a rise overlooking the ocean and named their settlement “Orange” after the color orange which they saw as a sign from God that they should move forward in their journey. In 1907, when Orange Cove became part of the newly created County of Orange, it had only 4 residents; three men and one woman who operated an orange export business from their homes onshore and another man who farmed crops along shoreline property. After joining forces with neighboring Newport Beach in 1932, Orange Cove quickly rose up through local government ranks as an important community within both cities due to its close proximity to key resources such as water supply, harbor and shopping malls. As Irvine county grew larger and more popular among Californians overall during the last half century or so, so too did Orange Cove’s stature within its own boundaries increase exponentially; thanks in no small part to continued economic development spearheaded by locals including restaurateurs Johnnie WalkerBarney (later JW Marriott) and Chipotle Mexican Grill (nowChipotle Mexican Grill USA). Although often overshadowed by larger metropolitan areas like Los Angeles or San Francisco – both adjacent counties with over 1 million people – there are ample reasons why Orange Cove has enjoyed sustained prosperity throughout its history: its well-preserved historic buildings dating back several decades; easy access to Interstate 5 via nearby highways; sound infrastructure including modern roads, sewers and schools; top-notch medical care options including urgent care clinics, hospitals and radiation therapy facilities; thriving nightlife scene courtesy OFA Racquetball & Billiards Club & numerous other businesses - all while remaining relatively affordable for those living outside coastal Southern California’s most populous city airport region).
The first Europeans to visit Orange Cove were the Spanish in 1769. The area was part of what is now known as California. In 1821, the U.S. government acquired land from Mexico in this cove and named it Rancho Santa Ana de la Costa del Pacifico. This land included the present-day town of Irvine and most of Seal Beach (except for a small amount that is now part of Huntington Beach). The ranchos were divided into lots, and construction began on a wharf to ship goods up the coast to San Francisco. By 1848, the wharf had been replaced by an iron post road which became known as State Route 66. In 1888, there was a fire at one of the wharves that destroyed most of Orange Cove beach. The replacement wharf was built over another portion of seaBed Spit, creating what is now called Newport Beach Boulevard (SR 66). The town of Irvine was incorporated in 1922. It grew quickly due to its location close to SR 66 and other transportation options. A new shopping center was built in 2003 and remains one of the town's main attractions today
