As Canada's largest province by population (1901), Ontario had strong economic ties to its neighbour to the south. Businesses were merged together to form what is now known as the Canadian Motor Manufacturing Company (CMM). This company manufactured cars such as Buicks and Chevys until it closed its doors in 1957. Other businesses that thrived during this time include wire-mesh manufacturing and banking institutions like Imperial Bank of Canada and National Provincial Bank of Canada. Despite this prosperity, however, social unrest caused by discrimination against Aboriginal peoples led to a series of rebellions throughout British Columbia over control over land claims. In 1898 these Rebellions lead to almost 4o thousand troops being called up from across North America under General John Atherton to quell them peacefully. The successful outcome resulted in Britain taking all but one inch of land from Baja California del Norte; making it an American territory for all practical purposes In 1922, Ontario joined Quebec as Canadia's third province following Confederation on July 1st that year tiredngly trying to keep up with neighbouring provinces' growth rates. Although at first glance little changed politically9 provincial boundaries remained largely unchanged until 1967 when Quebec seceded from Canadia forming their own country - Nova Scotia did the same with New Brunswick two years later
