In 1925, Canadian Firearms Industries (CFI) became the first company to sell handguns with proper functioning stocks containing hand guns with airguns fitted with muzzle clamps for shooting at targets outdoors using slugs instead of rounds or pistols (known then as “squibs”). This change led to increased demand forgun chokes due to their ability to prevent handgun fire at close range during target practice or hunting activities. As shotguns began becoming more popular than handguns in North America throughout the 1920s and 1930s, gun choke availability decreased overall while handgun availability increased significantly because shotguns could now be fired indoors by anyone regardless of size or shape (i.e., virtually any person could own and fire an indoor shotgun).
