Oceanside is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 57,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater San Diego metropolitan area. Oceanside is located on the Pacific Ocean and has been a small seaport for over 300 years. The city began as two small towns—Oceanside Heights and Oceanside—linked by a dirt road. In 1885, both towns were merged into one municipality with a population of just over 100 people. In 1951, when San Diego County was created, Oceanside became one of its seven cities. The first businesses in Oceanside were shipping containers that would be unloaded onshore to be filled with cargo such as flour and lumber before being transported back to Stockton or other points east. By 1898, there were five stores in town and six sailors Betsy Healy and John Fenton ran the first hotel; it stood until 1906 when it burned down due to an electrical fire which also destroyed many other businesses in town during that year's drought conditions caused by CWP (Clothing Workers' Protective Union) strikes across Southern California. In 1907-1909 local residents established "The Grapes" winery which produced Sauvignon Blanc from red grape vines grown on private property behind the old Navy Yard Naval Shipyard in downtown Oceanside Harbour; this fortified wine enjoyed great popularity among sailors who would imbibe while aboard warships off our coast during World War II In 1912-1914 various members of The Grapes family started an ice cream parlor called " cones 'n dines." Cones 'n Dines later moved to 2402 First Avenue where they remain today serving up soft serve ice cream treats since 1957! The business grew so much that they built their own building on Main Street SE between 1949-1950! This building still stands today next door to Hastings Bakery! During World War II several hundred families vacated their homes inland near Mission Valley for fear of German air raids but very few items were lost as most munitions factories situated inland survived intact thanks largely to Japanese efforts at deception camouflage . However some valuable items such as tools, car parts and clothing went missing! Most significant development in early 20th century occurred when Mexican nationals came ashore seeking asylum after qualifying for United States citizenship under the American Revolution process known as “Treaty Making” coastal Mexicans soon formed labor gangs known collectively as “The Needles” working primarily within citrus fruit packinghouses docksides throughout North County processing hundreds of boxes daily earning perhaps $3 per day plus tips never exceeded $10 per week minimum making them quite successful haulers accounting for almost 60% total output capacity operated by Packinghouse Company Limited out of El Cajon prior thereto including Chula Vista whence many truckloads arrived weekly direct from ports all along Orange Coast Highway disembarking at Wharf Road Warehouse just south of what is now Harbor Freight

Oceanside is located on the eastern coast of San Diego Bay and east of its namesake ocean. One important development during this time period occurred with the opening in 1934 of Sloppy Joe's restaurant - one of only two restaurants in downtown that did not joinOliver Beach Municipal Park District until incorporation day (the other being Hooters). In 1937, City Manager Edwin Sandomir developed plans for redevelopment along Sloppy Joe's original site which would have included an amusement park featuring rides such as log flumes and canals; however due to opposition from homeowners near University Heights there were no developments produced. However beginning in 1951 redevelopment started with construction on what would become known as Miracle Mile which featured highrise buildings including The Tower at 10th Avenue and Hope Street; The Regency Hotel at 12th Avenue between Orchard Road and Broadway; Pacific Life Insurance Building (later State Savings Bank building); buildings occupied by Pacific Gas & Electric Company (now known as PG&E) until 1984 when they were replaced by new structures built by Kaiser Permanente; King Features Syndicate Building - later turned into a anchors store - First National Bank building (now Macy’s), Sears Tower (now TD Ameritrade) - now Marriott International - Hecht-Langlois Residence at 3335 Eileen Way --- these are just some examples One significant event that took place during this time period was World War II when USS Indianapolis sunk off Coastlinespunnery range injuring many lives including those living within hearing distance from various businesses on Sloppy Joe's property including Naval Air Station Miramar where jets poached seafood from local waters

In 1907, Oceanside became a borough within San Diego County. In 1932, the city of Oceanside annexed part of Rancho Santa Fe which had been part of Gillespie County until that year. During World War II, significant military installations were built in and around Oceanside including Camp Pendleton and Point Loma Naval Air Station.
