Oakley, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 3,592 at the 2010 census. Oakley is located about 73 miles (121 km) north-northwest of Sacramento and 122 miles (193 km) northwest of San Francisco. The first Europeans to visit this area were Spanish soldiers in 1769 when they discovered an essential oil tree growing on Rancho de las Pulgas in present-day Oakley. In 1821, José Maria De Jesus Filiberto y Pacheco, lieutenant governor of Alta California under Mexican president Antonio López de Santa Anna, granted a grant to Isaac J. Hale for 640 acres (24 hectares). Hale named his land "Hale's Domain" after him. In 1875, miner and railroad entrepreneur James Wickersham agreed to buy 320 acres (12 hectares) from Hale for $8,000 cash and built the first rail line into this area called the Humboldt Valley Railroad. This was a key factor in later growth of Oakleyshore as a bedroom community for Northern Californians seeking easy access to resources such as coal and copper along the newly developed railway system. The post office opened at Oakleyshore on July 15, 1870; it closed on December 14, 1980 because of postal reform which eliminated mail service between Sacramento andOakley. Oakley, California is a city in Butte County, California. It is the most populous city in Butte County and the second most populous city in Northern California after San Francisco. Oakley's population was estimated to be over 153,000 as of 2018. The city is located on the northern edge of Butte County and shares borders with Sacramento to the west and Chico to the east. The original town site was on what is now Redding Boulevard in what is now Oakley. In 1856, John C. Fremont founded an adobe rancho called Rancho Argüello just south of present-day Redding Boulevard in what is today downtown Oakley. On November 5, 1856, there were only 10 residents living within 8 miles of Redding Boulevard when Fremont named it "Oakley." The first post office was established at "Oakley" on December 3rd, 1859 by Jno P. Larkin (the son of Jonas Larkin). In 1860, a general store opened at "Garland" north of present day Folsom Street; this store became known as "Fremont's Store." This location served as the nucleus for much of what would become downtown Oakley until 1906 when a new courthouse was built at First and Third Streets southwest of present day Folsom Street. In 1870, Ulysses S Grant visited America while on his way back from Mexico City through Yreka and stopped at RanchoArgüello which gave him an idea for how to expand American influence beyond Central America: He ordered some men to build a road from Yreka northeast to Frisco so that goods could be transported further up North without having to go through Mexico City or down South via Nicaragua or Honduras etc., this road became known as US 1010 (now I-5) which runs through downtown Oakleys heart today! In 1872 US1010 was still unnamed but James Ewing commodified it under the name "Eagle Ford". As early as 1865 Humboldt County had been organized into two districts – District 1 east of Oroville (northwest corner Coyote Creek) including parts near Today’s absorbed village/townsite of Elk Grove Village and District 2 south side Coyote Creek district including all current townsite except roughly centered around Present Day Elk Grove Village proper containing land grants dating back centuries... needless to say Eagle Ford soon got its start! All those years ago we simply took Highway 1012 east off State Route 395 past Oroville then turned right onto Eagle Ford Rd./US 1010 until today where we currently make our home! Today’s business areas are clustered around First & Third streets NW corner Laurelhurst Ave/Eagle Ford Rd., where we have our beautiful Main Library building & numerous other businesses
