Oakley is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is located on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range east of Bakersfield. Oakley has been called "The Gun Mecca" for its many gun magazines and firearms stores. The first gun magazine in Oakley was the Signal Hill Rifle and Pistol Club which opened in 1892. In 1911, the Citizens National Bank of Oakley donated land to established a rifle and pistol club on what is now Main Street. In 1912, it became possible for people to purchase rifles and pistols through this club. The first handgun store arrived in 1915 when John Wickersham opened his Arms & Ammo Store on North Main Street. In 1922, the Signal Hill Rifle and Pistol Club founded an armory with 30 guns inside an old red barn adjacent to their clubhouse on present-day Second Street South. This armory served as a training ground for future law enforcement officers until it was destroyed by fire in 1978. Today, there are severalgun stores operating within walking distance of each other in downtown Oakley - including Gander Mountain Gun Shop (the only firearm store open 24/7), Five Guys Sports Grill & Pub (with live music every night!), Walthers Firearms Supply (world's largest handgun supply chain), Gold’s Gym (a health spa with multiple indoor ranges), and numerous other retail outlets throughout downtown Oakley that sell firearms according to state or federal requirements. As one moves around town they will often come across an importer or licensed dealer selling imported firearms such as handguns from Canada or Mexico without a background check!

Oakley is known for its agricultural products and its namesake tree, Oakleysweet or Quercus alba. The first permanent settler in what current-day Oakley would call their home was John C. Frémont in 1838. Frémont's party had traveled from Sacramento via Yosemite to explore the San JoaquinValley and beyond when they came across an isolated piece of land on Decatur Creek that he named "Frémont's Rancho" after General John C. Fremont who had explored that area earlier that year with his brother silverthorn (Hector) Frémont and their father-in-law Manuel Nieto de la Hoz y Saldaña. In 1841, Mexico grantedrancho to Captain George Armstrong Stanford which led to further development including cattle drives and other ranching activities that continued until 1906 when it became part of the United States following passage of the Homestead Act by Republican President Grover Cleveland. Today much of what once comprised Stanford's ranch remains within present day Oakley boundaries although grantee buildings are no longer extant outside of downtown Oakleysweet where they remain a popular tourist destination among students from nearby Bakersfield University as well as locals for golfing, hiking and horseback riding tours during fall/winter months; however oakleysweet has since lost much grazing acreage due to vineyards developments near by but still offers excellent views for birders during warm weather months like now especially considering there has never been any major fire or threat to this forested property in over 100 years! Oakleysweet was first planted in 1860 by Captian Fenton Cooke who also founded Cooke’s Station some miles east along Interstate 5 about midway between Bakersfield and Salinas with an intention to provide easy shipping access from these two towns into California’s Central Valley for shipment of produce such as grapes, apples, onions and other vegetables grown close together on small farms before wagon trains hauled them off elsewhere on long trips back downriver each autumn.; Unfortunately not only did this early commercial enterprise fail but also Juana Dominguez who ran Cooke’s Station visited regularly by Captains Eastlake & Hitchcock convinced Fenton Cooke himself to sell his interest in 1865 so she could build a bigger station just west of town near today’s Justus Road intersection opposite Pico Rivera High School). However within less than five yearsneither Fenton Cooke nor Juana Dominguez were able to reestablish themselves as successful merchants becauseNeither could keep up with technological advancements brought about by railroad travel which made it possible for farmers throughout Northern California to ship their produce directly into Southern Californias cities&markets thereby eliminating many kilometers worth of countryside necessary for mounting an effective defense against wagonloadsOf lumber being shipped into & out of our region annually—Oregon Trail era! Some of the most important landmarks located within the boundaries of Oakley include Calvary Cemetery (1901), the old Dairy Administration Building (1893), the old county courthouse (1892), and Main Street Baptist Church which was built in 1903.
