In the early 1900s, American inventor George Oakley designed and patented a gun laser. The patent was filed on December 3, 1902. The device used an infra-red light source to fire a projectile through a window using a simple breech loading rifle. Oakley called his invention the "Gun Laser." The Gun Laser was first demonstrated in 1903 at the American Physical Society's meeting in Philadelphia. At that time, it was the world's only known weapon system employing infra-red lasers to fire projectiles through windows. The Gun Laser quickly became popular due to its simplicity and potential applications in various fields such as artillery and warfare. By World War II, interest in the Gun Laser had waned but it continued to be developed by many inventors until its abandoned status in the late 1960s. Today, there are still few examples of firearms with laser technology inside them and its use is mostly restricted to research or education purposes

Oakley, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. Oakley has a humid subtropical climate with hot and dry summers and mild to cool winters. The first European to visit what is now Oakley was Jedediah Smith in 1829 when he and his party were exploring the Kern River Valley. He named the location after an oak tree he saw while travelling through the area. In 1851, John Sutter discovered gold near present-day Bakersfield. The result of this discovery led to large numbers of people coming to Oakley for work on various farms and mine projects throughout the 1850s and 1860s. One of these projects was Father Cermak's Rancho San Joaquin which ran from 1859 until 1862. This rancho had many buildings such as a school house, barn, smokehouse, grocery store, post office and other improvements that are still extant today including some of the earliest iron fences in California! In 1861, David Jones founded what would become known as Jones Dairy in present-day Oakley Village which became one of America's leading dairy companies catering to farmers all over Northern California! In 1865, James Hargrave established Hargrave & Company (later known as Jardine & Hargrave) here in what would become home base for his extensive agricultural production until his death thirty years later; this included raising chickens (the first ever), cows/sheep/goats on selective meadows outside town limits - still an activity taking place today within our boundaries! From 1865 until 1946 there was also an American Legion Post #261 operated by Gertrude Ahern here; this building still stands adjacent to Highway 395 just south of town limits! Many businesses closed during World War II with most residents moving away during that time; however notable exceptions include local automotive parts company Export-Import Corporation who built their plant right next door to town Limits - continuing their operations into the present day! After World War II ended most residents returned but due to limited oil resources local businesses didn't recommence until around 1970 when they started manufacturing products such as children's toys

Oakley is part of the Bakersfield-Tijuana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for John Sutter, who built his Rancho San Miguel de Chico here in 1853. In 1876, A.C. Goodrich & Company established their first store here and soon afterwards oakleys became popular in America because they were strong and dark brown with a natural lens shape which made them very good for hunting or sky watching from a distance and giving people an idea about how far away someone was if they had one. Oakley began to grow rapidly after World War II when many veterans returned home and set up businesses such as grocery stores and welding shops in the town center while others settled down around the schools that had been built during those years like Oakley High School and Donnell Middle School (now Donnell Catholic HS).still others decided to move into this growing community right along side their old homes that remain today some still standing like Masonic Temple #1 (built 1915) now used as a storage building by South Central Elementary school also known as The Gables; Mrs Matson's Store (1910), Storch Hardware (1920), Methodist Church (1925), First National Bank Building(1927) all still stand today giving back what has been taken from us over time by various developers without any regard for our history or culture!
On January 1, 1857, the first post office was established in Oakley. The town of Oakley was platted on December 12, 1858. The population of Oakley grew rapidly and by 1860 there were over 100 residents. In 1870 the village of Oakley was incorporated and by 1880 its population had grown to over 500 people. The discovery of oil in California in 1911 led to an increase in the demand for goods and services fromOakley businesses. By 1912 there were more than 20 businesses operating in the town. In 1916, the first public school was built in the town. In 1942, during World War II, a military airfield was built near present-day Oakley with approximately 4100 acres (1 km²) of land being donated by John Doolittle for use as aAAF airfield. The airfield became known as "Doolittle Field". Later that year, construction began on a new high school which opened in 1945. In 1951, Doolittle Field closed and it was replaced by "Nellis Air Force Base" which is still used today as an AF base housing units with about 5000 employees.
