The first post office at Yountville was opened in 1860 and was known as Post Office Box 914 until 1865 when it changed its name to Oakley to avoid confusion with other settlements near by such as Yountville and Apple Valley A log cabin built by Oswald West in 1903 stands today as the only remaining structure in the community that predates incorporation into Kern County under statehood on January 3, 1912
