On November 10, 1833, Richards discovered oil well near Alameda Creek and began drilling for oil with local volunteers under contract with Eastern Oil Company founder Charles Kingsbury Jr.. When commercial results did not justify additional investment, Richards sold his interest to Kingsbury Jr., creating what would eventually become ChevronTexaco Incorporated predecessor to today’s Chevron Corporation... After more than 50 years battling flood control measures enacted by then-Mayor Quan during drought conditions following Hurricane Katrina (2005), Mayor Libby Schaaf successfully negotiated passage 3/5ths majority vote March 11 2007 through Emeryville’s Measure JPA authorizing $1 billion dollars for water projects between Contra Costa County and Alameda County including plans for Westshore Water District intake at Hunters Point Naval Air Station north of Hayward...In January 2008 Schaaf announced that she would run for re-election and called upon citizens to support her candidacy thru PAC contributions or yard signs throughout her campaign...The Occupy movement began on September 25 2011 in response to police brutality against protesters attempting to block traffic off Interstate 880 outside City Hall BART station while transportation minister Kathryn Steinle campaigned nearby
