Oakdale is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. It was founded by pioneers in 1868. The first post office was established in 1870. Oakdale has a population of approximately 12,000 people. The Oakdale Volunteer Fire Department (OVFD) was organized on October 1, 1903. The current building and station were built in 1959. OVFD is the only volunteer fire department in Kern County and one of the oldest rural fire departments in the United States. The first outdoor gun show held in Oakdale took place on November 6, 1905 at the Newhall Rifle Range located east of town on Highway 168 west of downtown. This event was organized by Mr. Sorenson who had purchased land for the range from Field Marshal Pancho Villa's forces during the Mexican Revolution.

Oakdale is a small town in southern California. It is located on the slopes of Mount Whitney, an important peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. The Oakdale post office was established in 1887 and remained in operation until it closed in 1984. The town was named after Oakdale Farmstead, which was located about one mile east of the present-day town center. In 1892, a Methodist church, called Zion Tabernacle, was built on land donated by John Copley and his wife Anna Phelps Copley. The first families to arrive in Oakdale were those from Sacramento who had been displaced by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. In 1916, two brothers named Harry and Elmer Kapler started a grocery store and bakery on nearby State Route 17B (now Interstate 5). They soon became known as "The Kapler Brothers". In 1923 they bought out their brother Harry's share of the business and continued to run it asKaplin Bros Grocery Store & Bakery Inc.. In 1928 they sold their grocery store to local farmer A.F. Oakdale is located in the county of Kern and is bordered by Bakersfield to the east, Porterville to the south, and Imperial County to the west. The population was 2,846 at the 2010 census. Oakdale is one of two cities in Kern County that are not part of a metropolitan area. The city was founded on May 25, 1887 by John C. Oakley and James H. Gorman as a small farming town named after an oak tree that stood near their home. In 1906, Oakdale became part of the Bakersfield–Los Angeles metropolitan area when it was annexed by Bakersfield. In 1999,Oakdale seceded from Kern County and became its own independent city. The first settlers in what is now Oakdale were farmers who arrived around 1847 from Illinois. By 1860, there were about 40 families living in what is now Oakvale with about 120 acres (50 hectares) of land. By 1880, there were over 500 residents in what is now Oakvale with 300 acres (120 hectares) of land divided among them for ranching purposes. In 1887, John C. Oakley and James H . Gorman purchased 12 acres (4 ha) of land north of present day Elmira Street from Edward Ayer for $100 dollars payable within 10 years or face eviction from their farmstead which they had occupied since 1792; this act marked the beginning of development at present day Elmira Street where much later both downtown business districts would be established adjacent to each other on one side only! Oakdale is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 28,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Richmond–San Rafael Area Combined Statistical Area. The original land for Oakdale was acquired by Tom and Louise Wecker in 1876 from José Martinez and wife Cruz de la Vega after they were forced out of their home near what is now Point Pinole on Octopan Creek. The couple erected a small adobe house on the lot which they named "Agua Fria" (Cold water). In 1887, Alice Morse moved to Oakdale with her husband John Morse from Stockton and started an Emerson Dairy with five cows. Alice's daughter Lillie Morse later married Harry Dean Stanton who lived in San Francisco until his death in 1961. Settlement began around 1888 when Thomas Goudreau built a cabin about east of current day downtown Oakdale on what became known as Rancho San Pedro Alta (later renamed Rancho Santa Clara Alta) . This area had been used by Native Americans for many years before that as it was within walking distance of points of interest such as Mission Bay and Mount Diablo. A post office called San Pedro opened in 1892, but no town happened until 1896 when the name changed to Oakdale because of its association with Agua Fria ( Cold Water). By 1904 there were 10 buildings in town including two stores, four residences, one hotel and three churches. In 1911 developers Jules Sheehan and George Hirschman purchased the land adjacent to Rancho Santa Clara Alta from Manuel Nieto for $2 million dollars which included 17 homes , six businesses , two schools , a fire station and other infrastructure . They developed the site into an urban community called Sheehan Heights that incorporated on December 12th 1912 . At first most residents worked in agriculture but soon established themselves as merchants, professionals and professionals' families living close together like those at Sheehan Heights across Mission Bay
