There is no one definitive answer to this question. However, there are some general histories of Oakdale target holders in the community. The first known target holder in Oakdale was Elijah Woods who erected a large tree stump near the corner of Third and Main Streets in 1853. He used a large rock as his support and shot at targets from his location. Another early target holder was George Hinkle who built a small cabin on the edge of town in 1858. He used an old barrel to shoot at targets from his location. In 1865, John Fenton set up shop on State Street in Oakdale and began shooting baskets outfitted with slingshots from his business premises. From here he would release the basket into the air and watch it fly back towards him for shots. In 1881, Wm. Krieger set up shop on East Second Street in Oakdale sellingTargetBags which allowed customers to shoot targets without having to leave their chairs at home. His business grew quickly and by 1888 he had moved to a larger facility on First Street which still stands today. In 1909, Edwin Jorgensen established himself as one ofOakdaletargetholderswithhisnewestablishmentJorgensen'sGolfAndSportsStorewhichofferedamuch VarietyofTargets includingshooters,pistols,andhandguns.(Thisbusinessisnowdefunct). Jorgensen continued to operate this establishment until his death in 1940.(Heoretargetholdersstilloperatingthis store today)). In 1951 Harry Weese openedWeese'sToyShoponWestThirdStreetinOakdaleto compete againstJorgensen'sGolfAndSportsStore(which has since closed down). Weese's Store remained open until 1984 when it merged with another local toy store chain called " Big Lots ". The new owner demolished the building and replaced it with a shopping mall that now occupiesthe space.)
Oakdale is a small community located in Kern County, California, United States. The population of Oakdale was 3,569 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the border of Kern and Bakersfield Counties and it is bordered to the north by the Angeles National Forest and to the east by Sunland Park. The first Europeans to reach what is now Oakdale were Spanish missionaries who arrived in 1781. A post office was established in 1848, but no mail ever reached the village until 1861 when a stagecoach service from Los Angeles delivered mail from Calabasas to Oakdale every day except Sunday. In 1865, an eastern branch of Southern Pacific Railway (SP) built a line through what is now Oakdale and began delivering passengers and freight to Jenson Air Force Base outside of San Bernardino County. In 1924, the name of what was then known as "OAKDALE" was changed to "SUNLAND PARK". In 1951, a fire destroyed most of downtown Sunland Park so that new development began in southeast Sunland Park which included buildings on First Street near present-day Firestone Road. A new school opened in 1958 called SUNLAND PARK High School which became part of Saddleback Valley Unified School District before being closed in 1993 following allegations of child abuse within its walls involving many prominent local educators including former superintendent Donny Ingram. As part of efforts to rebuild SUNLAND PARK after its closure, developer Donald Trump donated land adjacent to his Mar-a-Lago Club for an agricultural campus which eventually offered coursework leading up to a university degree program; however this never happened due to funding shortages during California's fiscal crisis caused by uncontrolled spending sprees initiated by Governor Gray Davis during his term as governor). After years of planning and construction over several decades - starting with President Ronald Reagan's signing into law on February 6th 1994 - SUNLANDPark Primary Care Medical Center (now known as Memorial Health System) opened its doors on May 1st 1998! Oakdale is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the San Joaquin River and is part of Stockton County. The first European settlers in what would become Oakdale were French Catholics who arrived in 1769. The town was named for a grove of oak trees that stood near the original settlement site. By 1846, there were only a few hundred residents living in what is now Oakdale. However, because of its location on the eastern bank of the San Joaquin River, it became one of many towns along this riverfront during post-war Reconstruction when California gained its independence from Great Britain. In 1872, two brothers founded anhydrous gas company in nearby Folsom and began selling natural gas to local farmers and businesses. This early industry helped to create a community nucleus around which other businesses developed over time including schools (1892), churches (1898), automobiles (1907), theater (1916), as well as breweries (1900) and sawmills (1899). By 1920, Oakdale had reached its peak as an agricultural center with more than 150 agribusinesses employing up to 2,000 workers; however, by World War II it had largely fallen victim to suburban sprawl and economic decline throughout much of California following the war's devastation across the state. In 1960s Oakdale experienced significant growth as new homes were built adjacent to old agricultural land that had been abandoned by developers after World War II due to low acreage prices and limited transportation access. Today, Oakdale remains a picturesque small town with easy access to both shopping centers and public transportation
Oakdale is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 12,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Victorville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Oakdale was founded in 1875 by pioneers George A. Smith and Lorenzo Dow as a stage station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Los Angeles to San Bernardino. The post office in Oakdale was established on December 6, 1875, and became known as "Oakdale Station". In 1880, Jourdan Fenton built a hotel and store near the original station. In 1885, John Sitton acquired land at the intersection of what is now Elm and First Streets for a new town called "Sutton". The first settler in Sutton was Israel Bakewell who built an adobe home on what is now Elm Street. By 1888, Bakewell had developed Sutton into an agricultural community with wells, stores and schools. bakewell's son-in-law Robert Hogue purchased land adjoining Bakewell's property to form what is now First Avenue between Elm and Second Streets. Hogue named his community "Hogue Heights". In 1893 Alfred Neuman opened his general store adjacent to Hogue Heights which became known as "Neuman's" because it served as both a grocery store and post office for many years until it closed in 1959. In 1907 Edith Beattie married Edwin Waddell of Lodi; they moved to Oakdale where she started her own bakery business before becoming Superintendent of Schools for Orange County (1927-1945). After World War II Neuman sold his business to Samuel Sacks who operated it until 1984 when it closed down due to neglect. In 1929 Elmer Waddell organized the first Christmas parade through town which took place at Main Street square downtown with floats such as reindeer or horsemen decorated with ornaments and lights during winter months while families gathered around large fires set up on outdoor benches inside warm homes during summer months After prohibition ended beer could be bought only from local small shops but this did not last long so by 1933 several large convenience stores had opened up throughout town serving mostly Route 66 fuelers looking for customers along side numerous fast food restaurants catering more toward Southern Californians than Northern Californians . By 1945 most people stopped using public transportation altogether instead opting for driving their carspooling services available primarily around major streets especially 5th Street south then north towards east ending up near Interstate 880 just outside Victorville . When I-805opened South Gate Mall replaced all these small streets making traveling outside either very difficult or impossible
