In 1886, Pacific Lumber Company began construction on what would become their largest logging project ever - 8 miles long and running along both sides of Valley Creek – making Oakdale one of their most visible localities throughout this time period. Ironically enough (or maybe not), much of this logging took place while residents were living under occupation by American Indian tribes who were not content with terms offered by company representatives about exchanging goods for goods or services during negotiations over trade treaties they had signed with US officials promising to protect these nations' rights to hunt game within their limits without interference from white settlers In retaliation various raids were staged throughout Northern Californiaagainst Indian villages primarily located near watercourses essential to their subsistence- some resulting in entire villages being burned down although others such as those located south Of Vallejo managed to escape unharmed thanks largely to timely warning from community leaders residing nearby about impending hostilities taking place several days before hostilities actually began; notwithstanding some local reports indicating that large numbers tribal members had indeed been killed or captured during these raids; nevertheless such operations continued unabated until Sherman’s column arrived on July 9th 1865 ending any further encroachments upon traditional hunting grounds deemed necessary for future generations Numerous churches also sprang up around this time including two new ones constructed close to existing home sites- First Baptist Church (later Union Chapel) built on land donated by Mrs John Hancey adjacent to 4th Street Road northwest corner Victoria Park Drive later renamed 4th Street Methodist Episcopal Church then finally Christmastime Eve services were held there until moved into current location across street on December 15th 1915 Reverend Dr Wm Sayers officiated A second new church was built northeast off busy 2nd Street between Center Boulevard & Van Ness Avenue currently known as First Presbyterian Church (now part of Cathedral Catholic Parish).
