In 2002, it merged with another steel producer, Alcoa Inc., increasing daily production by 75%. In 2006, it merged with two other steel producers - United States Steel Corporation and American Bridge Company - to form "Oakdale Steel Holdings". This increase in daily production resulted in increased profits for both companies. The merger closed in 2011 and eliminated all competition between them within their respective industries.

It is part of the Fresno–Los Angeles–San Bernardino–Pico City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Oakdale is located on the eastern edge of the San Joaquin Valley and north of downtown Los Angeles. The history of Oakdale dates back to 1859 when James Fenton bought 1,000 acres (400 hectares) east of modern-day Oakdale from Mission Indians for $1 per acre (0.48 ha). In 1865, Fenton built a small white house on his land and named it "Fenton's Ranch". In 1876, he sold his ranch to David Hines who platted it into four blocks: Main Street, Second Street south of Yosemite Road; Park Avenue east of Academy Boulevard; and Elm Street west of Academy Boulevard. In 1908, Fenton's widow married John Waddell and they moved to their new home which became known as "The Mansion". Mrs. Waddell died in 1915 and John Waddell continued to live there until his death in 1932. In 1922, he donated all four blocks including The Mansion to the city for development into what would become known as "Oakdale". In 1933 when Oakdale was first gazetted as a city by then Mayor Harry Benson its population was 526 residents; by 1938 it had grown to 2,046 with 9 businesses and 78 families residing therein according to Business Directory published by the City fathers in 1939 On July 26th 1951 Mayor Goodwin announced that all annexation requests received since incorporation were being considered package by City Council but no decisions had yet been made about annexation pending further study The following year on October 15th Mayor Goodwin announced that additional land adjacent To Interstate 880 be annexed making Oakdale an incorporated city with a total population of over 10K people within its boundaries . On November 4th 1951 annexed land adjoining Eastside Elementary School increasing its boundary from ThirdStreetToEdwardsStreetand annexing portions Of South Pasadena . With these additions over 20 acres (8 ha) were annexed including most recently Addition Of Park Avenue And Elm Streets Within TheCity Limits MakingItAn IncorporatedCityWithATotalPopulationOfOver100KPeopleWithinItsBorders

In addition, Oakdale experienced dramatic changes within its own personal households: during the 1950s more than half of all marriages were polygamous, whilerosemary Frick became one of America's first female leaders in business. In 1957, after decades of struggle against state government regulations that had limited their ability to expand their businesses beyond their original borders, the Frickers decided it was time for their community to move out of its rural location and into what is now downtown Oakdale. They quickly built an impressive new complex - including two schools, an athletic stadium, a library, and other public facilities - which has remained largely unchanged since then. Today, Oakdale is one of Northern California's most vibrant communities with thriving businesses and passionate residents who enjoy living close to nature and history alike.
