Oakdale is a small city in the San Joaquin Valley of California. It was founded by two brothers, John and Michael Boggs, in 1876. The population was 9,000 at the 2010 census. Oakdale is part of Fresno County. The Boggses were farmers who began growing oranges in their orchard on the edge of town in 1878. They decided to open a grocery store instead and named it The Orangesmith after their father's trade as an orchardist. In 1886, they opened a larger store on US 101 just outside of town. In 1905, Michael Boggs died suddenly and John took over the business. He continued to run it until his death in 1945. John had been married to Anna Kapp Cadwallader since 1881 and they had four children: Jens (1887-1984), Karen (1892-1968), Barbara (1901-2002), and Gordon (1905-1988). In 1935, Barbara became the first woman ever elected sheriff of Fresno County when she won re-election against incumbent Hiram Lodge Jr.. In 1944, Gordon Boggs married Dorothy Day Hickson and they moved to Pasadena where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as its marketing representative before becoming its president in 1957; he retired from that position in 1990. He was inducted into the Pasadena City Hall Hall of Fame in 1990 .

Oakdale is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,280 at the 2010 census. It is located on the edge of the Mojave Desert and southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The first Europeans to visit Oakdale were Spanish explorers in 1769, who named it "San José de los Cahuillas". In 1821, Mexican traders founded the town after finding an oak tree growing near what is now its center. The first post office was established in 1824. In 1855, gold was discovered here and the town began to grow quickly as miners came to find treasure buried beneath the surface of the earth. By 1860, Oakdale had a population of over 1,200 people. In 1862, when California became a state, Oakdale became part of Kern County and continued to grow rapidly as other counties were drawn into that new state. By 1870, it had reached its peak with a population of 3,500 people; however by 1880 it had fallen back to 1,500 people due to declines in mining activity and rising costs associated with living in an agricultural society. In 1907–1908 Japan visited Southern California and during their stay they found oil drilling operations being conducted near San Bernardino Valley (present day Diamond Bar). After noticing this development they decided to invest in this new industry so they set up their own oil company there called Japar Oil & Gas Co., Ltd which operated until 1951 when it merged with Unocal Petroleum Corporation for $5 billion ($ at current exchange rates). Japanese investors also bought large blocks of stock in both companies making them one of the largest single investments ever made by men in American history outside of technology or banking ventures such as Rockefeller's Standard Oil Corporation or Carnegie's Steel corporation etc.. In 1925 local women formed a civic group called "Heavenly Home" which campaigned for more social services such as libraries and playgrounds for children within walking distance of their homes - these requests eventually led to construction of our present day elementary school building on San Bernardino Avenue just north of today's cemetery! This group also spearheaded efforts towards creating streetlights within our community- something we take for granted today but only happened because Heavenly Home persistence paid off!
