In 1869, General John Blythe founded a post office here with the name Tomahawk Creek Post Office. In 1892, he changed it to Oakdale because of the many oak trees growing around the original post office site. The first store opened in 1907 and was run by Simeon & Anna Applewhite. They were later replaced by Laughlin Bros., who operated until 1958 when they closed their store due to declining sales. Over time, other stores were opened here including J C Penney (1949), Safeway (1974), First American Bank (1983) and Mastercard (2002). One of the main attractions in town is The Oaks golf course which has been open since 1912 and features some of the best courses on the Central Coast

The history of Oakdale begins with two individuals who set out initally just north of where it stands today- John & Nettie Oaktree. Both men were integral players during early days of AmericanAgriculture here in Northern California- John started out working on ranches near present day Bakersfield while Nettie developed large tracts of land east of Sacramento for growing corn, soybeans, wheat and other crops for export throughout America during this time period back when transportationations weren't so important! The two men went about developing their businesses differently but ended up coming up with something truly unique- they established what we now know as "Oakdale" as a wagon stop on the Butterfield Overland MailRoute from Stockton to Sacramento! What followed wasn't any ordinary business venture though- these guys were determined to make their mark not only on this area but also on AmericanAthletic culture overall! Not only did they establish themselves locally but they also began creating some really iconic landmarks here like "The Log Cabin" which still stands today (albeit dilapidated) right next door to our current municipal building - let's not forget about those delicious pancakes too!!!
