In 1990, when most Californian cities merged into metropolitan areas known as "MSA"s, Oakdale entered into MSA association with Fullerton and Visalia; these two cities would form the new downtown district now known as Civic Center District once again following annexation by DowntownOakdale in 1958 The City has seen significant growth over recent years including annexations along I-5 southward to connect with Riverside Countyoushouldering residential developments adjacent to Interstate 5 Business Loop allowing Forney Township eastward expansion withincity limits while also providing access to State Route 158 through downtown which bisects I-5 just east of downtown As well as some new development such as McKinley Park off US 95/I-680 just outside Town limits

In 1925 development began on what would become downtown Oakdale which included a movie theater, two banks and several businesses including an ice cream parlor. A state highway named after General George Custer led through nearby Shingle Springs until it was cancelled in 1933 due to budget cuts that also affected other highways statewide. Downtown Oakdale experienced significant growth following World War II as war production moved into the area for military use such as manufacturing weapons and ammunition shortages allowed for larger housing developments such as Regency Square Drive that are still extant today within Downtown Oakland Dale limits
