Oakdale is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. It is located on the east side of Stockton, about 25 miles north of Sacramento. The population was 5,476 at the 2010 census. The racial makeup of the town was 94% White and 6% Black or African American; hispanic or Latino of any race were 1% each

The first teacher was Mrs. Cushing. In 1872, the name of the school changed to Oakdale High School and it became an all-girls school until 1974 when it became an boys-only school again. In 1899, John Fenton established a cannery onshore at Point Conception Bayou and soon began shipping canned fruit products from Oakdale to markets throughout Northern California and parts of Oregon and Nevada. Fenton also grew orchards in nearby areas such as Happy Valley and Mill Valley before abandoning them in the 1920s due to changing industry patterns and higher production costs than those available from farther away sites.) In 1924, Drury & Company set up shop in nearby Excelsior Springs with its first product being cold cereal called "Drury's". Over time other items were added including milk (1927), cookies (1934), ice cream (1945), cigarettes (1950), candy bars (1951) as well as many more products over the years! The early 21st century saw renewed interest in Oakdale with development proposals for new businesses such as a brewery/restaurant/museum centered around Old Red Barn Road off SR 99E; plans for an oak plantation north of town; a drive-in movie theater;and much more!
Oakdale is located in San Bernardino County, and was the original town site of Riverside. The first post office opened in 1876, and the first store was built in 1877. In 1895, Oakdale became a city. On September 15, 1907, the then-new City Council adopted an ordinance creating a waterworks system to provide power for city lights. The Oakdale Water Works Company was incorporated on October 3, 1907. On May 6, 1912, Oakdale became a part of Riverside.
