Oakdale is a small town located in Stanislaus County, California. The population was 6,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Modesto Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Stanislaus County were French in 1769 and they named it "Nuages." In 1821, José Murillo settled here and named it "Murillo" after himself. In 1842, John C. Frick settled here and called it "Frick". In 1872, Hiram Lewis established the townsite of Oakdale which included parts of today's Stanislaus County. By 1888, all of present-day Stanislaus County had been organized into eight townships: Oakdale, Arroyo Grande, Brentwood, Danville, Eureka Springs (later shortened to Eureka), hammer metropolis (later shortened to Hammer), Hillsborough (later shortened to Hillsboro), Lodi ( later shortened to Lodi Heights), and Sacramento Township. The name for each township was chosen by popular vote from a list compiled by the board of supervisors consisting of local farmers and citizens laymen who had pooled their resources for this purpose. In 1915 when the State Highway System was created there were only three routes: one ran east-west through downtown Modesto then south along Farm Road 12 until it reached San Joaquin River; one ran north-south through downtown Modesto then intersected with Highway 1 just west of town center; and one connected downtown Modesto with Farm Road 6 east of town center forming what is now Park Boulevard. On November 16th 1916 original US 75 was designated as part of State Route 165 between Modesto and Fresno as well as US 101 between Fresno and Stockton making Oakdale an enclave within these two larger systems making it possible for people living near each other to get around without connection or transportationserved either by wagon train or horseback during those early days when roads were still dirt only wide enough for four horses per cart! It wasn't until 1951 that state highway system map changed finally putting I-5 on mainline from south side of city limits all the way out to rural parts including Oakdale! In 1838, Jens Jensen bought Rancho San Lorenzo de Atascadero from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $2,500 cash plus eight oxen and four horses. He named it oakdale after an old chestnut tree near his home which he had found while prospecting forilver deposits in Northern California during the 1800s. Along with other early settlers such as Peter Kimball and John Copley Jr., Jensen developed agriculture hereabouts into a successful enterprise that produced crops like wheat, barley, cottonseed oil and hay; cattle ranching; logging; mineral exploration; manufacturing (especially artillery powder); architecture (particularlyQueen Anne style residences) ; even stagecoach travel between Sacramento City and areas inland such as Stockton/San Francisco Bay Area). By 1860 oakdalers numbered approximately 1,200 residents living on 640 acres (250 ha), primarily within present-day downtown Oakdale but also scattered around present-day Beaumont Springs (on south side of highway US 101), Centerville (west side of highway US 101), San Carlos Park on north side of highway US 101 just west of Centerville Road (), Carrizo Plain on south end of San Carlos Reservoir (), Anacapa Island off northeastern coast (), Mission Hills () east of current day Yorba Linda Town Center (); Geary Point () off southeastern coast (); Diamond Lake () northwest of Geary Point (); Pismo Beach ()); Most notableBuildings: The original courthouse building still stands today across 2nd Street from Main Hall inside former bank building once occupied by First National Bank - built 1870 During World War II various American military installations were established or used at various points around town including Camp Pendleton Army Airfield just eastside Of Main Hall Blvd., Fort MacArthur Post Office opposite Presidio Square & barracks operated by Armed Forces Radio Service - post closed 1945 Another major site was Navy Yard Building on northeast corner 4th Street & Broadway where 5 battleships were build 1912-1916 & associated armament Storage buildings nearby later housing utilities etc... Today only remains foundations&metallic remnants above ground
