Oakdale is a small town in the eastern San Joaquin Valley of California. It was founded in 1873 by Cadmus Adams and his brothers, and became an agricultural center. In the 1920s, Oakdale became one of the largest centers for optical products production in the United States. The plant closed in 1960, but its legacy continues to be felt today as a center for research and development in optics.

Oakdale was founded by Cesar Chavez and his wife Dolores Huerta on a small tract of land east of downtown Oakland for farmworkers who were then using a nearby train station to get to work. The Huertas built a house on their lot and named it "Strawberry Fields". They raised crops and sold produce from their property until they sold it to the City of Oakland in 1951 for $3 million. In 1957, the City Council voted to change the name to Oakdale after Supervisor Arthur Ashe's daughter Oksana Ashe had been born there two years earlier. The new name reflected that Oakdale was now part of the city limits - much like Strawberry Fields had once been within Marriottsville Municipal Airport boundaries. Oakdale has experienced some growth over its decades-long history; however, most recent development has occurred in adjacent unincorporated areas near Interstate 880 which are annexed into the city Limits district as part of efforts by Mayor Libby Schaaf to increase density along I-880 while preserving open space within its boundaries

Oakdale, California is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California. It is located on the banks of the Kern River. The population was 1,811 as of the 2010 census. Oakdale was laid out by adobe builders in 1887 and named for Sir John A.Oakley, a British Rear Admiral who had played a significant role in suppressing Native American resistance to white settlement in Southern California during the 1850s. The first post office at Oakdale opened on July 25, 1887. The first settler were John and Jane Putnam from Los Angeles County. They arrived with their two children Sarah Jane and John Putnam Jr., on October 3, 1887. In 1912, Mrs. Alice Weston (1860-1936), widow of Mayor George Weston (1865-1946) founded the Oakdale School District which served all of Kern County until it merged into the larger San Joaquin Valley Unified School District in 1974. In 1923, Mrs. Weston donated land to build a high school which became known as Westwood High School after her sonWestwood Education Company developed it into an educational institution that continues today as Westwood University
Oakdale was a small town located in the Mojave Desert of California. It was founded in 1899 by John B. Oak and his family. The population of Oakdale peaked at around 350 people in 1941, but declined to 100 by 1945. In the early 21st century, Oakdale experienced an upsurge in popularity due to the development of its new community, Willow Grove, which is adjacent to the town on a large piece of BLM land.
