Oakdale is a small town in the Central Valley of California, located about an hour and a half from Los Angeles. The first Europeans to visit this area were French missionaries in 1769 who named it Rancho Nuevo de la Cañada del Oro because of the abundance of gold deposits nearby. Soon after, farmers began to arrive in what is now Oakdale from all around the region looking for land to cultivate. The first settler was George Wetherall who arrived in 1847 and named his land Rancho Cucamonga after his family's ranch near Huntington Beach, CA. Over time other settlers arrived including James Hargrave (1848), John Pemberton (1849), Washington Bartlett (1850), Hiram Bingham IV (1851), Arthur Carraway (1853), John Fitch (1854), Nathaniel Merrill (1905) and Wm Selfridge II (1913). By 1860 there were over 150 residents living on the site comprising mostly Anglo Protestants with a few Mexican American settlers present as well. In 1865 William Hargrave married Maria Sanchez whose father had founded the Sanchez rancho just east of town onuidor Creek which bordered today's City of Corona. Her father also owned many properties along Onuidor Creek including Rancho San Diego which stretched from downtown Corona down to Onuidor Creek. In 1870 Maria Sanchez gave birth to their only child George Washington Hargrave who would grow up to become one of the most successful businessmen in central valley history starting out as an entrepreneur at age 16 with investments in various businesses such as real estate, trucking services, medical supplies and agricultural products before becoming president/CEO of Empire Tire & Rubber Company in 1984 and retiring at age 85 years old making him one of Central Valley's longest serving citizens ever! In 1888 their son Ernestion Hargrave married Jane Keyes daughter of developer Edwin Keyes Sr.. They would have six children: Katherine Anne Keyes born 1918; Douglas Richard Keyes born 1922; Patricia Lynn Keyes born 1925; Donald Leroy Keyes born 1928; Newton Raymer Keyes Jr..born 1931and Kathleen Elizabeth "Kitty" Hargrave Born 1935.) The key industry that developed around Oakdale during its early years was agriculture with crops such as corn, beans, wheat and grapes being grown along with cattle or sheep raising operation providing milk for local markets until about 1930 when air conditioning became available allowing for more widespread production followed by auto assembly plants beginning production in 1947 which continued until 1985 when they closed citing economic reasons but remaining open research laboratories currently uses by UC Riverside are still operational! Today there are several dozen agricultural businesses operating throughout central valley encompassing everything from traditional hay farming operations to grain elevator operations producing both processed and unprocessed commodities primarily for local foodservice demand! Aerospace Manufacturing Industries began developing here during World War II based on ideas brought back by Royal Air Force pilots stationed here during the war who had discovered lost technology while flying missions over Japan so Lockheed Martin Corporation formed a team led by engineer Clarence “Cubby” Johnson working initially on creating an airplane design then expanding into engines development resulting in America’s first jet engine developed here including designs that went into service powering Boeing 707 jets through 1969! Other major companies associated with Oakdale include US Steel where they manufactured locomotives beginning commercial service in 1903 before being bought out by Seagram Distilling Co., makers of Absolut brand spirits starting production at their plant here between 1923-1959 ultimately becoming divestitureagreed upon by all parties involved yielding much property within eastern Ventura County including enclosing much downtown Oakland today!)

Today, Oakdale is an important cultural center for the region due to its rich history and variety of museums including two County Museum facilities: one adjacent to downtown and open every day except Sundays; and another adjacent campus off Highway 395 which offers community programming events year-round and features special exhibitions each winter including "California'slost villages" exploring how agricultural communities disappeared around central California following major droughts in that area over several decades
