The first homes were built hereabouts back around 1868 or so and sometimes called "Farmers Houses." There wasn't much land available then so most folks lived inside their house or barn until they could find more land or started a farm themselves some time later! In those days things didn't change much hereabouts very often so you pretty much stayed where you were born unless moving out was necessary! There have always been people living hereabouts - even though we might not have had anything like today's amenities like schools, hospitals, grocery stores etc LOL! Hereabouts life continued pretty much how it always does... with cattle raising being our dominant industry for most part! But don't forget about those occasional big events like county fairs or state fairs held down at various locations throughout different years LOL... all sorts of funstuff happened hereabouts during different eras!

The first post office opened in 1888 and was called "Stockton". In 1889, George W. Oakdale moved his family to what is now known as Oakdale from Stockton. However, due to its location on the riverbank and its close proximity to larger towns such as Modesto and Sacramento, Oakdale quickly became one of Kern County's most popular communities. In 1912, Oakdale annexed portions of neighboring unincorporated areas of Kern County including White Oaks Ranch (now Pleasanton), East Oakland (now San Leandro), South Oakland (now Daly City), West Oakland (now Danville) and North Oakland (now Livermore). This annexation created what is now known as the East Bay Area ofOakland Valley
Oakdale was founded in 1848 as the town of Sutterville. It was named after General John C. Fremont, who had led the California Gold Rush. The town became a city in 1902 and changed its name to Oakdale on December 1, 1903.
