As a result, much of what are now downtown Novato (partly bounded by El Camino Real to the north; Orinda Boulevard to the east; US 101 to the south) were developed during this time period as part of Rancho Santa Fe's annexation into San Rafael proper. After World War II ended with V-J Day on September 2nd 1945 local businesses closed their doors because there was no war surplus food left over from World War II storage shortages caused by allied bombing raids targeting Japan which had devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki two years prior; consequently many small farmers who did not have large enough farmsteads or barns to store food received government relief deliveries instead which led to increased prices for goods sold at local stores across America including items like gasolineoline which went up 50 cents per gallon between 1945 and 1949 due to lack thereof available for retail bought goods during wartime rationing*. Novato was founded by John B. Novato in 1849 as a small town on the north shore of San Francisco Bay. The first post office in Novato was established in 1850, and the first store opened in 1851. In 1861, Novato became an incorporated village. In 1865, the California Central Railroad reached Novato from Oakland and began to serve the town as a transportation center for goods being shipped to and from San Francisco. The railroad helped spur industry growth in Novato and other villages along its route. The rise of automobile production during World War I led to a boom in Novato's economy, with many new businesses opening up to exploit the increased demand for cars and trucks. During World War II, the military built several dozen homes in Novato after requisitioning land from local farmers for use as fighter aircraft bases. A number of high-profile events took place in or around Novato during these years: including Jack Kerouac's birth here on November 12, 1942; President Lyndon Johnson delivering his inaugural address here on January 20, 1965; and Neil Armstrong becoming the first human being to walk on the moon here on July 20, 1969. During this time period, many young people grew up here such as Jerry Weintraub (later known as Donald Trump), Randy Newman, Tom Wolfe, Tim Leary and more. In recent years, Decatur has seen rapid growth due to population outmigration from larger cities throughout California over the past few decades – most notably Silicon Valley – while neighboring towns have seen significant declines in population due to factors such as job loss orrification.
