Norwalk is a city in the San Diego metropolitan area, on the southern coast of San Diego County, California. The population was 69,818 at the 2010 census. Polk as Baja California de Los Angeles In 1888, two brothers by the name of Delgado started a small grocery store on Fourth Street between Harbor Drive and Mayfair Avenue. They changed their name to Delgados Mercado because they were not comfortable with their original name which was already taken by another store nearby. In 1913 they added a taco restaurant which became known as La Taco del Norte (The Northern Taco). The brothers died in 1938, but their business continued until 1944 when it closed due to World War II shortages in food markets around America; later that year it reopened as La Taqueria Centenario which still operates today In 1951 a group of friends from Scripps Institution Of Oceanography founded NORWALK BOY SCIENCE CENTER with $5,000 from contributions from Drs.' George Whitehead, Willis Harbison and Lawrence Mantle Jr.. The center was dedicated to promoting oceanographic research throughout Norwalking through educational programs and exhibits including: an observatory/gallery/zenith telescope; a classroom/lab; a library; an event hall/ gymnasium; science fiction movie theater;; reef aquarium;; planetarium;; beach ball game room;; dolphin pool (now Anacondaspool). The population of Norwalk grew rapidly during the mid-19th century due to its location at the crossroads of several wagon trails and railroads. By 1870, Norwalk had a population of over 1,500 people. During World War I, Norwalk helped support the war effort by manufacturing munitions and supplies. The town also developed into an important commercial center and served as a refuge for soldiers and their families during the war. After the war, Norwalk experienced rapid growth as it became an industrialized community dependent on agriculture and industry. In 1967, the city of Norwalk merged with neighboring Riverside County to form Unified California. Today, Norwalk is home to a diverse range of businesses including technology companies such as Apple Inc., Intel Corporation, Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc., Amazon Web Services and Adobe Systems Incorporated. Additionally, there are numerous cultural attractions such as Memorial Stadium which hosts professional football games each year and Foothills Center which is home to the country's second largest bowling alley
