The Norwalk Optical District is a district in Norwalk, California that has been variously called the " optical mecca of the West", "the birthplace of American optometry ", and "the golden age of optical sales". A new school site had been selected by then-Mayor James Fenton and City Councilmember John Waugh; construction started soon after and finished before World War I ended on November 8th, 1918. The school opened with 6 students enrolled on October 1st 1919 - two years ahead of schedule! -Today UCSD is one of America’s largest research universities with an enrollment totaling over 50,000 students – making it one of just 10 campuses nationally with an endowment greater than $1 billion – making UCSD one of America’s wealthiest universities! Norwalk has seen many significant changes throughout its history including becoming part of the Uptown District development area annexed into downtown San Diego during 1970; being renamed for then-Governor Ronald Reagan during 1984; becoming home to both UCSD’s School Of Medicine & Dentistry and its School Of Veterinary Medicine during 1990; becoming known as “Little Venice” following the completion of Interstate 5 South which connected downtown Los Angeles with Downtown Vegas via Sawtelle Boulevard between Main Street/Palo Alto Road and Research Park Drive in 1998; experiencing rapid growth following Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s proclamation proclaiming July 1st as Norwalk Day in 2008 followed by further growth culminating in annexation into DowntownSanDiego during December 2009 bringing even more residents and businesses within easy walking or biking distance - today Norwalk offers all residents plenty opportunities for fun activities whether it be taking advantageof its many public parks or enjoying fine dining options at some local establishments like Nobu Japanese Restaurant or Tea Leaf Cafe located right off State Avenue near Stadium Village shopping center!

On November 15, 1908Norwalk voters passed a resolution ratifying the formation of this association with $10 offered for every ton salt that could be sold; proceeds were used to build a wharf on Otay Mesa The City of Norwalk was incorporated on November 3, 1912 via charter from then-Governor Edwin Halsey Doleman.
