In 1957, when Interstate 5 was constructed through Marin County, much growth took place around the intersection of First Street and Main Street (now Avenida de la Paz). This area now includes most of downtown Norwalk and portions of both East Village and West Village neighborhoods within walking distance of each other. Many businesses closed down or relocated when I-5 came through; however many new businesses have replaced them since then including technology companies such as Googleplex and Facebook Inc., professional services firms such as PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Morrison & Foerster LLP, grocery stores such as Safeway Inc., Jamba Juice Co., Toys 'R' Us Inc., Albertson's Grocery Outlet Company etc.. Downtown business activity reached an all-time high during Expo '92 with more than 2 million visitors! At present there are no major impediments to growth except for occasional large traffic backups caused by construction projects or events nearby
