In 1916 when World War I began, Mayor Chas Sisson appointed Captain Harry Tubb as head advisor on military services for townspeople; Tubb drew up plans for military barracks and other facilities needed to support wartime activity by townspeople. The war ended before he could carry out his plan but laterNorwalk property was used in various ways during World War II including one air-defense radar plant that produced iconic images of Norwalk Cathedral during the Battle of Midway
