Norwalk, California is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. As of 2018, the Norwalk City Council is composed of Mayor Michael J. It is located on the Pacific Coast Highway at the mouth of the Santa Clara River. The first Europeans to visit what is now Norwalk were Spanish Franciscans who traveled in search of land to settle. Their explorations began in 1602 when Father Antonio de Avila set out from Mexico with three friars to explore what would become California. He named this area "San Luis Obispo" after Saint Lorenzo, one of his companions on his journey. In 1853, a group of men led by Jedediah Smith explored and claimed part of present day San Luis Obispo County for United States control under Treaty 4 following their successful expedition overland from Sacramento through Mono Lake and into Mono National Forest. The town developed as a result of this claim and construction began on what would eventually be called NORWALK – Norwood Village on the site where today's municipal buildings stand. The first post office was established in 1865, and it became known as "Norwood". As America grew increasingly industrialized during the 19th century,NORWALK experienced rapid growth with streetcar service connecting downtown with farms around miles radius eastward; businesses such as laundry facilities sprang up along State Street; new homes were built near Waterfront Park; churches were built throughout town south of Broadway; professional athletes such as baseball pitcher Bob Feller made their homes here while playing for local teams or traveling commercially]; both schools – Sacred Heart School which educated girls until 1916 and Our Lady Of Angels School which opened in 1875 – continued to operate unchanged until they closed decades later due to budget cuts mandated by state education reforms that originated with President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal coalition government during World War II In 1951 NORWALK became an incorporated municipality with its own board of supervisors; however many services still operated within municipality including water & sewage systems, parks & recreation programs etc.; school districts serving portions or all OF Norwalk joined forces culminating in 1972 when each district formed a unified school system - District 5->Norwalk Unified School District Today nearly every family in NORWALK has some form of access to modern conveniences including electricity, phone service AND trash pickup - something unheardof even fifty years ago! Municipal services continue unabated even as budgets have dwindled making NORWALK one example among many where technology has replaced traditional infrastructure According to the 2000 U.S Census there are only 332 residents living within city limits while 2 other municipalities share borders with Norwalk: Arroyo Seco Township covers eastern portion extending into unincorporated territory adjoining downtown while Eastport Township surrounds western end encompassing most residential areas beyond norwalks boundaries

Norwalk, California is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 53,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of San Diego County and the largest city in both San Diego and Orange counties. The name Norwalk comes from nearby Knolls (now Norwalk Hills) and refers to its location on a shipping canal between those two counties. The first permanent settler in what would become Norwalk was Francisco Sanchez in 1846. In 1862, citizens of Yorba Linda petitioned for incorporation as a town because they were concerned about growing voter fraud in neighboring San Diego County. On February 17, 1865, incorporation became official when City Manager Lorenzo Ames certified that the signatures on petitions had been correctly delivered to the clerk of courts. In 1887, an earthquake caused heavy damage to much of downtown Norwalk with several buildings collapsing or being destroyed completely including the old courthouse where today's City Hall stands. To help rebuild after this terrible event, local investors erected a new brick courthouse and named it "The State Capitol". This building still stands today and can be seen from downtown Norwalk from most areas of town except for Knolls which has since been replaced by mixed-use development called Gateway Park . Built during World War II as part of Project Orion – one of America's largest wartime housing productions –Norwalk experienced significant growth during that time with nearly 4100 homes built between 1942 and 1945 alone. However following the war there was stagnation as many people returned home to their previous lifestyles or left for other parts of the country; however some did remain until 1960 when Bay Area Rapid Transit began service through Norwalk serving all residents northward within walking distance (the southern terminus being MacArthur Boulevard). It wasn't until 1978 that voters approved Proposition A which created what is now known as Central Park Drive (later renamed Del Mar Blvd.) leading directly into UC Berkeley Campus located just east of Central Park Drive on what is now Hearst Avenue NE cornering University Parkway/Del Mar Boulevard NE: this area became known as South Campus after then Governor Pete Wilson announced his decision not to build anymore UCSD campus south of Interstate 5 but instead locate it closer to potential job centers outside Riverside County so students could commute easier! Today South Campus continues undeveloped largely due to lack of interest by either university or developers despite having excellent schools such as UC Berkeley making use thereof! Today North Campus sees less traffic due mostly to residential subdivisions situated along Eastbay Drive & Harbor Freeway rather than downtown nor Walkers Beach directly across Central Park Drive although walkers beach does have some commercial property near US Highway 101
