Norwalk was founded on October 15, 1853 by John Norwalk and his brother Amos Norwalk as a town in Kern County, California. It became an incorporated city on May 24, 1907. On November 4, 1923 it merged with neighboring Santa Ana to form the new City of Orange County. The merger made Norwalk the second-most populous city in Orange County behind Los Angeles and it remained that way until 1984 when its population peaked at 148,700 people and then dropped to 108,700 people by 2010

Norwalk is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater San Diego Area and is the smallest municipality in San Diego County by land area. The city's boundaries were defined on July 1, 1969, when it amalgamated with neighboring Riverside to form the new town of Norwalk. The first human settlement in what would become Norwalk was made on May 29, 1887 when George Aiken established a homestead west of present-day Civic Center Boulevard. At that time there were no roads or settlements within what are now Norwalk and Riverside counties. In 1889 pioneer Simeon Wright settled along present-day Interstate 5 near its intersection with State Route 163; he named his post "Wrightville" after himself and his wife Sarah. In 1923 community organizers formed the Municipal Advisory Committee for Water Supply and Sewerage which recommended that a sewer plant be built in Norwalk; this recommendation was accepted by City Council on February 3, 1924 without objection from property owners who feared an expensive upgrade would detract from their primary use of their land - agriculture. On October 26, 1925 construction began on the then $5 million (2005 USD) norwalk sewering project which completed in 1928; this was one of several major projects funded by philanthropist Arthur Ashe patronizing civic organizations throughout Southern California during the late 1920s and early 1930s as part of his program called "Progressivism". Norwalk's annexation into Riverside Counties occurred effective January 1, 1951 due to lack of voter approval for annexation from unincorporated areas within those counties bordering both cities – including parts of today's Downtown Riverside and Corona Heights neighborhoods – despite petitioning by Mayor Harry Wolkowski and City Manager John Hinchcliffe for years prior to that date. That same year saw completion of extensive street cleaning operations mandated by then newly enacted Valley Cities Ordinance No.#8 (1951), which stated all streets must be free from snow accumulation within six months after each winter storm or until cleared by plows/blowers operated pursuant to an ordinance adopted following each pandemic season; this ordinance also required curbside collection of trash starting December 15th annually). In 1957 another comprehensive sewer plant expansion project became available following voters' approval via referendum for an additional $10 million (2005 USD) spent over 5 years insteadof just $6 million originally planned; this new expansion allowedNorwalk to serve more people through improved public transportation options as well as increased recycling rates thanks to expanded education programs promoting waste reduction initiatives among citizens living near municipal facilities. In 1965 President Lyndon B Johnson announced plans for Interstate 5 bypassing downtown Los Angeles en route to northbound I-405; progress towards bypass status took two years before construction began on I-5 southward passing through downtown Norwalk concurrent with widening existing US 101 between Corona Heights eastbound lanes (now US 101 Business) and Broadway eastbound lanes parallel to present day Civic Center Boulevard past today's White Sands Missile Range before terminating at I-15 northward outside LAX Airport. This alignment remains largely unchanged today except for some minor reworking involving relocation/replacement of various road components along I-5 corridor during recent decades including realignment & Widening Project #4 adjacent freeway entrance ramps currentlyserving portions Of Downey & Hawthorne Streets neighborhood southwest corner thereof currently servedby South Pasadena Avenue NE bus stop
Norwalk was founded on December 11, 1859, by Captain George William Norwalk and his wife Catherine. At the time of its founding, it was an unincorporated community located in Kern County. It became a municipality in 1872. On May 15, 1912, Norwalk was incorporated as a city. The population of Norwalk peaked at 32,973 in 1930; however, it has since decreased to 17,845 residents today.
