The history of Newport Beach began with the arrival of European settlers in 1781. The area that is now Newport Beach was first inhabited by the Ohlone people. In 1824, a group of American soldiers under General John C. Fremont discovered oil reserves in what is now Orange County and decided to explore them. They named the site Santa Ana, after Saint Anne,mother of Jesus. In 1839, when Los Angeles County was created, Santa Ana became part of it and was renamed Irvine. In 1860, Irvine built a mill on Laguna Creek and started producing flour for local businesses and consumers. The mill closed in 1886 due to economic problems but reopened in 1915 as the Newport Beach Mill Company Limited. The company produced paper products such as envelopes and postcards until it went out of business in 1978. In 1907, developer Edward J Moulton built a large tract of land called Laguna Heights on the shoreline of Laguna Creek between Seventh Street and Eighth Avenue in Newport Beach. He named his development Laguna Canyon after his home state of California's famed canyonlands (Laguna Canyon is located near LASD headquarters). Moulton developed this property into one of the most expensive developments ever undertaken in Southern California because he had extensive access to water resources and planned to use them to irrigate his development. However, only a few hundred residents lived on Laguna Canyon by 1951 when it was annexed by neighboring Irvine because Irvine's water supplies were superior from its own wells
Newport Beach, California is an unincorporated community in Orange County, California. It was located on the Newport Coast and was founded by white sailors who sailed from San Francisco in 1836. The town grew rapidly after it became a port for shipping during the Gold Rush. By 1880, Newport Beach had a population of over 100,000 people. The town was first named "Port Hueneme" after John Huenemeir, a British voyager who visited the area in 1838. In 1886, the name was changed to "Newport Beach" after then-Governor Pio Pico's request for submissions of names for local communities on his watch as part of the State Name Contest. The city is now home to more than 31,000 people and has adopted many of the features that have made Orange County one of America's most diverse and popular regions: beaches, parks, wine country, and golf courses. The city also brags about its high quality of life – with low crime rates and plenty of cultural attractions – making it an attractive place to live or visit. Newport Beach has been around since 1836 when white sailors sailing from San Francisco landed at what is now known as Point claimed on Santa Ana Bayou. From here they took small vessels upriver to find new ocean front properties rich in gold nuggets that lay waiting beneath the waves off shorelines throughout California’s Channel Islands chain—just offshore from where today’s Newport Harbor stands."
There is a long and varied history of gun targets, dating back to pre-historic times. One of the earliest examples of a physical target was an animal carcass used as a game piece in ancient India. Other early examples include the Chinese cauldron, which served as a sniper's or rifle target during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). From here, the target took on many different forms over the centuries, with variations such as being mounted on stakes or even being set up in water. The first dot matrix gunfire tests were conducted by Major John Newell aboard USS Constitution in 1814. These tests were aimed at determining how well cannons could be fired using paper silhouettes instead of real targets. The first gun targets were designed in 1814 by American Revolutionary War veteran and engineer James Fenton. His design was for a cross-bolt machinegun, which he christened the 'Fenton Rifle'. The rifle featured an 11-inch barreltip that could be used to hit moving targets at long range. It was not until 1818 that the first successful trials with this weapon took place, during the Second Seminole War. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell tried to use a machinegun against Union troops near Petersburg, Virginia. Although it inflicted no damage, the weapon's recoil caused it to overheat and malfunction. This experience showed engineers how important it was for artillery commanders to have accurate fire control over their guns in order to destroy enemy positions quickly and efficiently.

It is the most populous city in Orange County and one of its nine cities. Newport Beach is also the largest city in Southern California by land area. Newport Beach's history stretches back to 1876 when it became one of three towns in what is now Orange County. The 1915 Irvine Companyleased an tract totaling .5 acres west of Main Street between Laguna Niguel Boulevard and Willoughby Avenue to make way for their new citrus industrys growth; as well as housing developments such as Playland Village II and Irvine Spectrum condominiums that would be annexed into neighboring municipalities over time including Laguna Niguel and Huntington Beach until they were all combined into one municipality in 1984 with Measure B becoming effective following protracted litigation: Measure B - annexation timeline It wasn't until 1959 when local voters passed an ordinance establishing beach volleyball as an official sport within Newport Beach Recreation District #1, giving birth to what is now known as "Beach Volleyball Hall Of Fame." That same year saw the opening of Swimming World Aquatics Center which would become home to both NCAA Division I men's collegiate swimming programs televising world championships throughout much of the 1990s before moving down to Men’s Clubhouse status during their move from Fullerton prior to their current facility opening in 2017 just south of Commercial Drive: Swimming World Aquatics Center In 1963, CBS began broadcasting live coverage from studios located on North Coast Highway across from South Coast Plaza shopping center; beginning what would be called “The Game Of Your Life” program which televised multiple Olympic Games around the world starting with Barcelona’s Equestrian showgrounds hosting horse shows & agricultural exhibits then expanding international capabilities through coverage including Rome (Italy), Edmonton (Alberta), Buenos Aires (Argentina) & more culminating with London’s Olympia Stadium hosting mobile games utilizing electronic scoreboard system providing high definition streaming available worldwide via satellite: CBS live Olympics coverage
